Sewa International Commemorates Leadership Change at 19th National Conference

A Year of Impact: New Leadership Emerges at Sewa International's National Conference

On May 12, 2025, Sewa International USA, a prominent Hindu faith-based non-profit organization, witnessed a significant leadership transition during its 19th national conference held in the vibrant Bay Area of San Francisco. Over 140 dedicated volunteers and members gathered from May 3 to May 5 to celebrate the organization's achievements and welcome the newly appointed president, Srikanth Gundavarapu, who succeeds Arun Kankani after an impressive tenure.

The conference served as a platform to honor the contributions of Kankani, who led Sewa International through unprecedented challenges during the COVID-19 pandemic. Under his leadership, the organization rose to prominence, becoming a beacon of hope for many communities. His dedication was evident as he orchestrated millions of pounds of food distribution and provided over 100,000 hot meals to front-line workers and those in need. Furthermore, Sewa's impactful initiative sent over 10,000 oxygen concentrators to India, standing as a testament to their commitment during these challenging times.

As Sewa's newly inducted president, Srikanth Gundavarapu, a recognized businessman from Atlanta, expressed his heartfelt gratitude towards the volunteers and donors who built the organization from its humble beginnings in an Atlanta garage to its current stature. He stated, "I'll lean on the strong shoulders that built this foundation. Sewa's real strength lies in its thousands of volunteers and donors nationwide. Their dedication and hard work have built Sewa, and I am proud to carry forward its legacy."

The conference was a nostalgic gathering where past presidents shared their memories and insights about Sewa’s growth trajectory. Former President Srikant Konda reminisced about the organization’s modest start, while Gautam Desai, the second president, highlighted Sewa's initial responses to local disasters, notably Hurricane Katrina. Prof. Sree Srinath, Sewa's third president, spoke of the organizational systems that bolstered Sewa’s operational efficiency.

To emphasize leadership values, Advisory Board Member Saumitra Gokhale reiterated during the concluding session that true leadership stems not from titles, but through continued service and commitment. This philosophy underlines the essence of Sewa, merging leadership with a heartfelt call to action.

Moreover, Suresh Jain, Chairman of Sewa's Board of Directors, announced that the San Antonio Chapter will be the host for the milestone 20th National Conference, paving the way for future gatherings and expanded community engagement.

As Sewa International transitions into this new chapter with Srikanth Gundavarapu at the helm, the organization aims to continue its legacy of service, resilience, and compassion. With 43 chapters throughout the USA, Sewa International remains committed to disaster relief, education, and community development, serving individuals regardless of their backgrounds. The dedication and tireless efforts of volunteers ensure that Sewa will continue to foster and uplift communities, making a lasting impact nationally and globally.
