KTVJ TV Completes Major Signal Upgrade
KTVJ-LD, broadcasted as Virtual Channel 3, is excited to announce a significant enhancement to its broadcasting capabilities, following the completion of a major technical upgrade. This upgrade is expected to greatly improve viewership and accessibility throughout the Boise-Nampa-Meridian region in Idaho.
The technological overhaul involved the installation of advanced equipment, including a state-of-the-art GatesAir transmitter and a high-performance Jampro antenna system. One of the most pivotal changes was transitioning from VHF Channel 6 to UHF Channel 26. This switch, along with an authorized increase in Effective Radiated Power (ERP) from 3 kW to an impressive 15 kW, represents a substantial five-fold boost in broadcasting power. The outcome is a much clearer and more reliable viewing experience for audiences of KTVJ across the entirety of the Treasure Valley.
Rick Kurkjian, President of CMC Broadcasting Company, expressed excitement about the upgrade, stating, “This upgrade is the culmination of a dedicated effort to better serve our growing Idaho community. By moving to the UHF band and quintupling our broadcast power, we are ensuring that more households than ever can access our diverse lineup of news, inspirational programming, and country music with superior reliability.”
Despite the adjustment in physical frequency, KTVJ’s presence on television remains as Channel 3. Viewers who rely on over-the-air antennas are encouraged to perform a “channel re-scan” on their digital TVs or converter boxes to savor the enhanced signal and updated channel offerings.
KTVJ-LD boasts an impressive multi-channel lineup that caters to a broad audience:
- - Channel 3.1: theDove TV – A platform dedicated to faith-based and community-centric programming that inspires.
- - Channel 3.2: Newsmax 2 – Offers independent national news and a variety of talk show segments.
- - Channel 3.3: CMC-USA – This is America’s Country Music Channel, showcasing contemporary hits alongside timeless classics.
This project not only represents an upgrade in technology but also signifies a new chapter for KTVJ, which began broadcasting in November 2021. The transition to a more powerful UHF signal will enable the station to effectively combat previous signal issues attributed to the terrain, thus paving the way for a dependable high-definition viewing experience that extends from urban areas in Boise to the rural surroundings.
