Global Consortium Led by Nexus Core Systems to Establish a Cutting-Edge AI Factory Fueled by Renewable Energy
Global Consortium to Build AI Factory in Morocco
A groundbreaking initiative is underway as a global investment group, led by Nexus Core Systems and supported by key players including Lloyds Capital, NAVER Cloud, and Maroc Telecom, has announced its plan to construct a state-of-the-art artificial intelligence (AI) factory in Morocco. This ambitious project aims to leverage 500 megawatts of renewable energy while employing cutting-edge AI computing technology to bring transformative changes to various industries within the country.
A Strategic Location for Innovation
Situated just 15 kilometers from Europe, Morocco provides a unique geographical advantage, making it an ideal hub for delivering sovereign computing capacity to the European market. The project is expected to significantly enhance the capabilities of local industries and elevate Morocco's status in the global AI landscape.
NAVER Cloud, in collaboration with Nexus Core Systems and Lloyds Capital, will spearhead the deployment of an advanced platform that guarantees secure and sovereign access to AI computing for governmental and corporate clients. The infrastructure will be built using modular technology, facilitating quick implementation, scalable expansion, and efficient maintenance with minimal onsite construction risks.
Phased Development and Future Vision
The first phase of this monumental project is set to launch in the first quarter of 2026, featuring over 40 MW of next-generation AI accelerators specifically designed for large-scale model training. Once operational, this facility is poised to become one of the largest AI supercomputers in the region. To ensure long-term, cost-effective, and sustainable operations, the comprehensive program will harness up to 500 MW of renewable energy through a strategic agreement with TAQA Morocco.
NAVER will integrate its proprietary hyperscale cloud platform, which includes the CLOVA AI suite, zero-trust security architecture, and regional data residency controls, to meet strict data sovereignty and compliance requirements across Europe, the Middle East, and Africa (EMEA).
Maroc Telecom will function as the marketing partner for Morocco, leading commercial distribution initiatives across corporate and governmental channels. The telecom company plans to use a white-label platform propelled by Nexus's infrastructure and NAVER's AI technologies to accelerate national AI adoption and digital transformation initiatives.
Impact on the Regional AI Ecosystem
Chae Seon Ju, president of Strategic Business at NAVER, expressed enthusiasm about the project stating, “This collaboration marks a significant turning point for our cloud and AI technologies to expand beyond Japan, Southeast Asia, and the Middle East, reaching into the European market.”
Christopher Yoshida, the CEO of Nexus Core Systems, emphasized that investing in advanced AI infrastructure is vital for accelerating AI development and adoption across the EMEA region. He noted the potential for this initiative to create valuable collateral benefits that entail training opportunities, fostering new collaborations, and boosting the overall AI ecosystem in Morocco, thereby putting the nation on the global map for sovereign AI.
Next-Gen AI Services and Innovations
The consortium's efforts are expected to drive the next generation of AI-driven services and innovations encompassing basic model training, multimodal inference, robotics, autonomous learning, and high-performance data processing. By merging Nexus's infrastructure with NAVER's AI capabilities, the system will facilitate the deployment of advanced AI models that enhance performance, drive efficiencies, and unlock transformative business use cases throughout the region.
The architectural foundation of the project adheres to globally recognized standards for AI infrastructure, developed through partnerships with leading ecosystem collaborators.
This initiative not only signifies a pivotal moment for technological advancement in Morocco but also underscores the importance of collaboration across continents to foster a sustainable and innovative future for AI. As the landscape of artificial intelligence evolves, this AI factory could very well become a beacon of technological progress, inspiring similar ventures across the globe.
