Experience the Momomo Summer Festival in Sugamo
On August 24th, from 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM, the Sugamo Otori Shrine Shopping Street will host the eagerly anticipated "Momomo Summer Festival." This unique event promises a delightful blend of modern technology and tradition, featuring Sugamo's newly introduced mascot, Momomo-chan, who embodies the spirit of this vibrant community.
What is Momomo-chan?
Momomo-chan was created to celebrate and promote the Sugamo Otori Shrine Shopping Street, representing the community's vision for the future. The name derives from three important Japanese words: "sugamo" (this place), "kodomo" (children), and "kore kara" (from now on). As a symbol of the shopping street’s commitment to nurturing the younger generation, Momomo-chan serves as a bridge connecting the past, present, and future.
Leveraging the power of advanced conversational AI, visitors will have the opportunity to interact with Momomo-chan and experience engaging dialogues. Interactive kiosks will be set up in two locations within the shopping street, allowing children to converse with the character. During the festival, attendees can also be the first to explore Momomo-chan's evolving AR features in a special preview area.

Turning Sugamo into a Future-Oriented Community
In April of the previous year, the longstanding Sugamo community underwent a transformation with the merger of the Sugamo Shopping Association and the Otori Shopping Association, leading to the rebirth of the Sugamo Otori Shrine Shopping Street. This revitalization aims to foster a lively environment aligned with the needs and aspirations of children today.
However, the public perception of Sugamo often contrasts sharply with its actual vibrancy. To rectify this misconception, the shopping street recently applied to the Tokyo Metropolitan Government's innovative three-year project aimed at revitalizing commercial districts through AI technology and was selected for the initiative. This forward-thinking project promotes a collaborative effort to engage the younger population with the history and allure of Sugamo by encouraging them to "Talk, Know, and Discover" through interactions with Momomo-chan.
The Sugamo Otori Shrine Shopping Street offers thrilling opportunities for engagement, community, and learning. Explore the evolving landscape of technology, creativity, and culture at the Momomo Summer Festival and become part of Sugamo's future story!
