Karen Orton: A Legacy of Excellence
In a remarkable celebration of commitment and service, Karen Orton, Senior Underwriter at A.I.M. Mutual Insurance Companies, has been distinguished with the prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award by the Connecticut Young Insurance Professionals (CTYIP). This accolade was presented during a memorable reception held in New Haven, Connecticut, on October 16.
The award recognizes an individual whose career exemplifies extraordinary dedication to the insurance industry and the development of young professionals. Jillian Krynski, Director of YIP, commended Karen for her tireless advocacy and for uplifting those around her while carving out her own professional path. "It is a privilege to honor her incredible contributions and commitment to the field," said Krynski.
Karen’s journey in the insurance domain began in 1982 as a Workers' Compensation Outside Claims Adjuster. Over the decades, she transitioned into marketing and finally found her niche in commercial underwriting. Her career has seen her serve various roles at renowned companies such as MAPFRE, USI, and Coverys before she joined A.I.M. Mutual in 2018. At A.I.M., she plays a pivotal role in promoting the company’s workers' compensation services across Connecticut, Rhode Island, and Massachusetts, consistently driving new business growth with her extensive knowledge and expertise.
Dan Landers, President and CEO of A.I.M. Mutual, expressed immense pride in Karen's accomplishments, emphasizing her role as a mentor and leader in the insurance community. "Her depth of knowledge and willingness to share it make her an invaluable asset to our team," he stated.
Over the past 30 years, Karen has been an active participant in PIA Connecticut, where she has held various leadership roles including serving as a Director and Tri-State Alliance member. Her commitment has earned her numerous accolades, including the title of Connecticut Young Insurance Professional of the Year in 1996.
In addition to her professional duties, Karen pursued further education, earning her Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from the University of Rhode Island. She has also achieved several professional designations: Certified Insurance Counselor, Certified Risk Manager, and Certified Professional Insurance Agent.
At the same reception, Malorie Leone from Atlantic Casualty was honored as the 2025 Connecticut Young Insurance Professional of the Year, demonstrating the continued growth and recognition of young talent within the industry.
Established in 1989, A.I.M. Mutual has provided workers' compensation insurance to over 18,000 policyholders throughout New England, holding an excellent rating from AM Best Company, which reflects its strong financial standing.
