Event Review: Exploring HR Skills Together as Families
On August 3rd, 2025, at the Shibuya Cultural Center Ohwada, Corner Co., Ltd. hosted a workshop titled
"Exploring Family and Team Dynamics through the Lens of HR! - Summer Parent-Child Experience Workshop 2025." The event aimed to broaden the understanding of HR concepts, often perceived as confined to corporate environments, by connecting them to everyday family interactions and school life.
Morning Program: Creating Family Happiness Rules
The day began with an engaging discussion led by instructors who prompted kids with the question,
"What rules exist in your home or school?" Children eagerly shared examples such as listening to their teachers and tidying up after themselves. Following these reflections, the instructors provided a mini-lecture explaining the purpose of rules as
guideposts to ensure everyone’s well-being.
The workshop encouraged families to write down values they felt were essential, prompting them to discover commonalities. One pair found joy in
spending time talking and smiling together, while another shared commitments to balanced lives and regular house chores. This allowed parents to gain insight into their children’s values and thoughts, with one parent expressing joy at discovering her child's perspectives on life.
Afternoon Program: Become a Bakery Manager
The afternoon session tasked participants with assuming the role of a bakery manager. They were to create a flyer recruiting teammates for their pretend bakery. The process began with children listing the qualities they desired in potential team members and discussing what roles were essential for a successful team.
While children took the lead in creating the flyer, parents guided discussions with questions such as,
"Why do you think this person is a good fit?" This collaboration helped to articulate the bakery's vision and the characteristics sought in team members.
As they concluded this task, children shared their bakery concepts, revealing ambitious ideas, such as
a bakery that spreads joy from Hokkaido to the world! The excitement in the room was palpable, marked by shared laughter and creativity.
Feedback from Participants
Participants overwhelmingly expressed their satisfaction. An attendee noted,
"Communicating the workshop's content to my child was an enlightening experience for both of us." Another remarked on how the workshop fostered deeper conversations about family values.
Several parents appreciated how comfortable and relaxed their children felt during the program, attributing it to the welcoming staff. The event proved to be a meaningful opportunity for parents to engage their children in open dialogue about their family dynamics and roles.
Instructors' Reflections
Takahiro Monma, morning session instructor, shared insights about converting corporate values into family principles. He emphasized the significance of families having meaningful conversations regarding their cooperative goals and rules.
Kozuji Kobayashi, the afternoon instructor, expressed delight at the high-quality flyers created by the children and how parental questioning significantly encouraged creative thinking.
Conclusion
This workshop demonstrated that HR principles could extend beyond the workplace, influencing family dynamics, school life, and everyday interactions. Corner Co., Ltd. remains committed to harnessing HR expertise to connect with society and education, offering similar opportunities in the future.
