Seegene and Springer Nature Launch 2025-2026 Nature Awards MDx Impact Grants for Antibiotic Resistance Research

Seegene and Springer Nature Collaborate for Impact Grants

Seegene Inc., a global leader in molecular diagnostics, in partnership with Springer Nature, has initiated the Nature Awards MDx Impact Grants for 2025-2026. This initiative aims to tackle one of the most pressing issues in global health—antibiotic resistance in urinary tract infections (UTI-DR). Researchers worldwide are invited to submit proposals by November 20, 2025, with award winners to be announced in August 2026.

The grant emphasizes the urgent need for innovative solutions in the diagnosis and treatment of antibiotic-resistant infections, which remain a significant challenge for healthcare systems worldwide. As part of the program, selected researchers can receive grants of up to $600,000 to support their research projects. This funding will also ensure access to Seegene’s advanced PCR testing technologies and software, enhancing the development of innovative diagnostic methods.

Richard Hughes, Vice President of Publishing at Nature, expressed the organization's dedication to supporting scientists in their efforts to improve healthcare outcomes through diagnostics. “As a leading global publisher, Springer Nature is committed to creating platforms that connect researchers and foster innovative investigation,” he noted.

Dr. Jik Young Park, Vice President and Head of Research and Development at Seegene, highlighted the essential role of collaboration in transforming innovative ideas into viable healthcare solutions. He stated, “By closely working with Springer Nature, we support global scientific research, providing not only funding but also access to our PCR technologies. These efforts aim to enhance molecular diagnostics, bringing us closer to a world free from diseases.”

The Nature Awards MDx Impact Grants program is a response to unaddressed clinical needs in diagnostics. The current cycle, in its third iteration since its inception in 2023, invites scientists to propose studies that focus on up to 18 resistance genes related to urinary infections. The projects funded in previous cycles included rapid detection techniques for the Klebsiella pneumoniae bacteria and multi-PCR testing for virus diagnostics in immunocompromised patients.

Seegene's contributions to global health, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic, are noteworthy. The company successfully delivered over 340 million COVID-19 tests to more than 100 countries, underscoring its significant global impact. With over 20 years of experience in diagnostic research and development, Seegene continues to lead in the production and distribution of real-time PCR technologies for syndromic diagnostics.

What sets Seegene's real-time PCR technology apart is its ability to simultaneously test for up to 14 pathogens causing similar symptoms using a single sample. This capability increases coverage for multiple clinically relevant pathogens and allows for quantitative data that is vital in treating complex infections.

Through its Technology Sharing Initiative, Seegene has integrated its syndromic quantitative PCR technology with the Seegene Digitalized Development System (SGDDS), collaborating with top institutions and experts globally to develop diagnostic products tailored to local needs. This ongoing global partnership embodies Seegene's vision of creating a “world free from diseases.”
