Exhibition Overview
The upcoming exhibition titled "Between Black & White," a collaboration between graphic designer
Kobayashi Ikki and
fujie textile, will take place from June 7 to July 7, 2025, at
gallery stoop in Shira kawa, Koto Ward, Tokyo. This event invites art enthusiasts to explore the beauty found in the subtle and often overlooked aspects of everyday life, captured through Kobayashi's distinctive artistic lens.
Kobayashi has developed a unique array of patterns from seemingly mundane experiences, such as observing children’s spontaneous drawings or noting the fleeting reflections on water. These inspirations have translated into a collection that ignites the viewers' awareness of the often-ignored contours of their daily existence.
The Concept of 'Between Black & White'
The exhibition title represents a continuation of themes Kobayashi has explored since 2019, emphasizing the simplicity and elegance of black and white as fundamental artistic elements. By using black pen on
Kentar paper, he emphasizes the pure forms themselves and integrates warmth and softness brought to life through textiles.
While fujie textile and Kobayashi have previously collaborated on various projects, this exhibition focuses exclusively on the interplay of the two colors—black and white. Visitors will witness a refinement in form and spatial arrangement that distinctly reflects Kobayashi's unique worldview.
Exhibition Details and Featured Works
Attendees will be treated to an immersive display of 22 two-dimensional works and two three-dimensional pieces, showcasing a new series within the
TEXTILE ART COLLECTION. The flat artworks are printed on a cotton-linen base enhanced with foil printing, while the dimensional works are created through a process that reveals forms as the fabric shrinks.

Yusuke Takeuchi will curate the atmosphere, presenting visitors with an exciting blend of unexpected styling ideas and innovative spatial designs. This integration aims to enhance the overall viewer experience.
Artistic Philosophy and Design Process
The main visuals represented in the exhibition echo Kobayashi's unique interpretation of textiles. His approach is summarized by the notion that you cannot predict the outcome until you embark on the journey, emphasizing the charm of handmade processes that birth organic and serendipitous textile expressions.
In a particularly noteworthy aspect of his designs, one can see that mistakes during the printing process have been embraced as intentional design elements, showcasing the unpredictable qualities of textiles and transforming them into a dynamic source of imagination.
