Freedman Law Announces First Recipient of Workplace Rights Scholarship in 2025

Breaking New Ground in Employment Law

In an inspiring initiative aimed at supporting future legal professionals, Freedman Law, based in Columbia, Maryland, has officially announced the first recipient of its Workplace Rights Scholarship. This semi-annual award, set up by attorney Lindsay Freedman, offers $1,000 to college students pursuing a career in law, specifically focusing on promoting and protecting workers' rights.

Meet Christen Smith

The inaugural scholarship has been awarded to Christen Smith, an ambitious student from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, where she is nearing the completion of her degree in Hospitality Management. Drawing from her personal experiences in the service industry, Christen has expressed a profound desire to advocate for workers who face unfair treatment. Throughout her teenage years, she faced challenges in the workplace, which ignited her passion for this crucial cause.

Christen’s journey toward law began after discovering her interest in Hospitality Law during her studies. This newfound enthusiasm spurred her on a path to enroll at the William S. Boyd School of Law this upcoming fall, where she aims to specialize in employment law. Her objective is not just to carve her place in the legal field but also to make a tangible difference for those who struggle in work environments that may not be just or equitable.

The Motivations Behind the Scholarship

Mr. Freedman established the Workplace Rights Scholarship in September 2024 with the intention of fostering a new generation of lawyers dedicated to civil rights and employee welfare. It serves as an educational and motivational platform that encourages students to think critically about their futures in law. Each recipient is required to maintain a minimum GPA of 3.5 and submit an essay or video that articulates how they plan to utilize their education to benefit workers' rights and civil liberties.

Future of the Scholarship

The next deadline for applications for the Fall 2025 Workplace Rights Scholarship is set for September 8, 2025. Interested candidates are encouraged to apply by visiting the official Freedman Law Scholarship page. This scholarship not only reflects Freedman Law's commitment to social justice but also empowers students to be champions for change in the workplace.
