About Atelier DENSAN

Established by the Traditional Crafts Industry Promotion Association in Tokyo, Atelier DENSAN focuses on introducing Japan’s traditional crafts, designated by the Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry, to a global audience. The initiative's dual approach includes product exhibitions and hands-on workshops, fostering connections between Japanese craftsmanship and international lifestyles.

Workshop Details

Hong Kong - Kaga Yuzen Workshop

Schedule: October 1st - 5th, 2026
Instructor: Takeshi Yamada, Traditional Craft Artisan

In this workshop, participants will learn about Kaga Yuzen, a traditional dyeing technique that features realistic floral patterns and subtle color gradation. Artisan Takeshi Yamada will demonstrate coloring techniques using brushes. Participants will create their own framed Kaga Yuzen artworks under his expert guidance, making this an artistic and educational experience.

Hong Kong - Owari Butsugu Workshop

Owari Butsugu, a craft that has flourished in Nagoya since the early Edo period, will be the highlight of this workshop. Participants will observe Yasuyuki Iwata as he demonstrates woodworking techniques and will have an opportunity to create a traditional Japanese ladle, along with an aromatherapy diffuser made from recycled wood shavings.

London - Kishu Lacquerware Workshop

Location: OXO Gallery, OXO Tower Wharf, Barge House Street, London SE1 9PH, United Kingdom

Kishu Lacquerware, renowned since the Muromachi period, will be explored in this London workshop.
