The Launch of the Artist Portfolio Feature on ArtSticker

The Chain Museum (TCM), headquartered in Shibuya, Tokyo, is proud to announce the launch of a new feature called the "Artist Portfolio" on its platform, ArtSticker. This tool allows artists to manage their artwork data and personal information in one place, presenting it as reliable official information available to a global audience.

TCM's Commitment to Artists

TCM aims to be the ultimate partner for contemporary artists. We believe in empowering every artist to document their journey and preserve their progress for the future. This dedication underpins all of TCM's activities. Since its launch in 2019, ArtSticker has provided a space for diverse artists to showcase their talents and foster dialogues within the community, with nearly 4,000 artists registered to date.

In addition to our digital initiatives, we have explored various forms of collaboration in real-life settings, partnering with galleries and art institutions. Our initiatives include exhibition projects at five locations in Tokyo, collaboration with the Tokyo University of the Arts, and the operation of Ueno Shita Studio. Furthermore, we have supported artists through our Artist-in-Residence (AIR) program and the Artists Park Project community, encouraging collaborations and knowledge sharing among artists.

The works and expressions collected on ArtSticker link deeply to the various public projects TCM actively develops in commercial facilities, offices, and public spaces. By creating a bridge between online and physical realms, TCM continues to open new avenues for artists to present their work and connect with society.

As we roll out the Artist Portfolio feature, we envision it as a foundation for artists to craft their own histories and share them with society.

Why Develop This Feature?

The goal is to preserve the creative "journeys" of artists for the future. Historically, artists have faced challenges in managing and disseminating their portfolio information, statements, and activity history. Traditional methods, such as building a personal website, are both time-consuming and costly. Paper portfolios, while common, limit visibility to specific locations and often present information in only one language.

The self-curated information from the artists holds intrinsic value as primary data. After a piece has left the artist's hands, fans and researchers may still seek deeper insights years down the line. Previously, accessing trustworthy primary data often required reliant on galleries or researchers to compile and publish books or catalogs, a process that can be resource-intensive.

TCM recognized that leveraging the digital environment of ArtSticker could address these issues. The online format bypasses physical decay restrictions and eases translation efforts, allowing global audiences to access both activities and accumulated works. Enabling artists to intuitively organize and share their information not only makes it more discoverable by society but also potentially lowers the barriers for future research and publications, thus preserving the diverse creative journeys of artists for the future.

New Features of the Artist Portfolio

The artist page has been completely revitalized, offering a new "Artwork Display Mode (Monograph Mode)" that enhances immersion in individual works while maintaining a dedicated sales view. The Monograph Mode helps artists emphasize the artistic narrative rather than the commercial aspects while creating an official archive page reminiscent of personal artist websites.

Additionally, we have introduced a customizable top page and a grouping function called “Featured” that allows artists to display works contextually. Artists can set cover images optimized for different devices and highlight important events, enhancing the narrative surrounding their works.

For the management of artist changes, we now offer a streamlined interface for artists to organize their resumes, awards, exhibitions, and public collections, making it effortless to copy-paste existing information or input new details. This feature enables easy external sharing, covering pertinent CV items needed for calls or applications.

A Multilingual Digital Portfolio

The Artist Portfolio can be easily shared with a single link, making it an official document for presentations to fans, collectors, and galleries worldwide. It supports multiple languages including Japanese, English, and simplified and traditional Chinese.

We understand the challenges artists face in documenting and sharing their experiences amidst their busy creative schedules. Through this Artist Portfolio feature, TCM aims to promote wider and lasting accessibility of artworks and expressions, creating new connections and opportunities for collaboration.
