Collaboration and Regional Revitalization: The First Local Tour by the Cabinet Office's Remote Co-Creation Hub in Tottori City

On March 5th and 6th of 2026, Tottori City welcomed the inaugural regional tour organized by the Cabinet Office's Remote Co-Creation Hub. This initiative marked a significant step in promoting collaboration between the public and private sectors, featuring participation from 11 enthusiastic companies and three local governments. The goal was to enhance local revitalization through dialogues and site visits at eight key locations across Tottori City, including universities, financial institutions, and local companies.

What is the Remote Co-Creation Hub?

The term 'remote co-creation' refers to a collaborative effort aimed at revitalizing rural areas through telework, which allows individuals to move to these regions without changing employment. This approach encompasses various initiatives such as 'migration without job changes,' increasing local populations through workations, and establishing satellite offices by companies from urban areas. By accelerating the movement of people from cities to local regions, it contributes to job creation and new business development, thereby fostering local revitalization.

In November 2024, the Cabinet Office launched the platform 'Remote Co-Creation Hub' to promote these efforts further. The hub serves as a matching platform for companies passionate about local revitalization and local governments looking to tackle regional challenges together.

Highlights of the Two-Day Tour

Day 1 - March 5, 2026

The tour commenced with a visit to Tottori University, which boasts the nation's only research center dedicated to arid land studies and the world's first chromosome engineering research center. The attendees were introduced to unique research seeds and the collaborative framework with the industry. They learned about the recently established Regional Future Co-Creation Center, 'Tottori uniQ,' which offers various opportunities for corporate collaboration.

Following the academic visit, the group moved to the Tottori Sand Dunes and SANDBOX TOTTORI, a collaborative hub operated by Skyer, Inc. There, they explored the innovative aspects of utilizing sand similar to that of the Moon, the potential for drone applications, and efforts to foster mid-sized industries that leverage local characteristics.

Local government representatives highlighted their digitization initiatives and support systems formed through partnerships between government, private sectors, and academia. Furthermore, from Kurayoshi City, information on the attraction of satellite offices and town development using traditional architecture was shared.

Day 2 - March 6, 2026

The second day featured a visit to Maruniwa Inc., led by a representative who discussed innovative urban renewal approaches by focusing on attracting businesses to underutilized areas. Participants also observed the 'Not So Serious Store,' a result of a five-year ongoing urban development workation project.

Visits continued at Katukami (tentative name), a new business co-creation hub in the city center aimed at transforming innovative ideas from government, businesses, and citizens into tangible projects. The group identified opportunities to support local challenges.

The tour concluded with an exchange meeting at Tottori City Hall, where corporate representatives shared their interest in future collaborations based on their observations during the tour. This dialogue laid the groundwork for potential collaborative projects.

Future Perspectives

While the Remote Co-Creation Hub has primarily concentrated on matching events in Tokyo, this inaugural tour in Tottori City embodied a new model of co-creation by allowing member companies to engage directly with the local community and key players.
Dooox Inc. will continue to support public-private collaborations and follow up on the connections made during this tour, aiming to facilitate quality matches within the hub and create further co-creation opportunities, including more regional tours.
