Nexon Reports Strong Second-Quarter Results and Plans for Future Growth in 2026

Nexon Reports Strong Q2 Results for FY2026

On August 1, 2026, Nexon Co., Ltd., based in Tokyo and led by CEO Lee Jung-hoon, announced its consolidated financial results for the second quarter of the fiscal year 2026, covering the period from April 1 to June 30. As a leading developer and operator of online games, Nexon's performance surpassed expectations due to sustained growth from its MapleStory franchise and the success of their game ARC Raiders.

Performance Overview

CEO Lee Jung-hoon remarked, "The continued strong performance of the MapleStory franchise, alongside the contributions from ARC Raiders, led to revenues and operating profits exceeding our forecasts for the second quarter. The latter half of the year is set to be vibrant, featuring multiple releases such as Mabinogi Mobile across various Asian markets and the substantial 'Frozen Trail' update for ARC Raiders."

During the second quarter, Nexon's sales revenue reached ¥121.1 billion, marking a 2% increase year-on-year. Although, on a constant currency basis, revenues showed a 6% decrease. Operating income also exceeded expectations, totaling ¥31.3 billion, though this is a 17% decline from the previous year, primarily due to increased costs associated with user acquisition and the rising expenditures on cloud services and software use.

Total expenses were lower than planned, with higher creator rewards but overall personnel costs modestly curtailed due to temporary factors. Quarter profits reached ¥29.6 billion, largely driven by an operating income that exceeded projections and a fund valuation gain of ¥5.5 billion.

Insights on Popular Titles

The second quarter also saw significant growth from Nexon's flagship franchises. For instance, the ARC Raiders franchise achieved cumulative sales exceeding 16.3 million copies by selling an additional 800,000 units in the second quarter. The much-anticipated Frozen Trail content update is scheduled for release in October. Additionally, Mabinogi Mobile launched in Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Macau on July 22, marking its first global rollout.

Moreover, following a partnership with Blizzard Entertainment, the PC version of Overwatch began serving in South Korea on August 12. This expansion highlights Nexon's strategy of leveraging collaborations to enhance their market presence.

Growth Projections and Financial Strategy

Despite the challenges, Nexon has maintained a robust cash position, with a cash balance of ¥842 billion, which provides ample resources for future growth investments. Furthermore, the company plans to distribute a special dividend of ¥415 per share, totaling about ¥324 billion (approximately $2 billion), rewarding shareholders in line with their commitment to improving capital efficiency.

Forecasts for the third quarter reflect a revenue target between ¥120.7 billion and ¥133.4 billion, projecting year-over-year growth of 2% to 12%. Operating profit is estimated between ¥22.6 billion and ¥32.3 billion, with predictions of a decline due to rising costs associated with ongoing operational expansions and marketing for new titles.

Upcoming Releases

Nexon has laid out a robust pipeline of upcoming releases, including a new title, Arad: Idle RPG, envisioned as a casual experience appealing to new players. Other anticipated launches include the mobile version of Dave the Diver and several titles based on their renowned franchises like Dungeon & Fighter. The release calendar indicates a strategic focus on expanding audience engagement and enhancing player retention across their gaming catalog.

As Nexon progresses with its planned releases and strategic investments, the outlook remains optimistic, underpinned by strong franchise performance and market expansion efforts. Investors are encouraged to stay tuned for potential growth catalysts and updates from Nexon’s foresighted initiatives in the gaming industry.
