Huawei ICT Competition 2024-2025 Global Final Comes to a Close
The Huawei ICT Competition 2024-2025 Global Final concluded with a triumphant awards ceremony in Shenzhen on May 25, 2025. This prestigious event marked the ninth iteration of the competition, drawing an astonishing participation of 210,000 students and instructors from over 2,000 universities and colleges across more than 100 countries and regions. After rigorous national and regional contests, 179 teams advanced to the Global Final from 48 countries and regions, showcasing the incredible growth and interest in ICT.
Highlights of the Competition
Through intense competitions focusing on practical skills, innovation, and programming, 18 exceptional teams from 9 countries emerged as the cream of the crop. The awards were distributed across various tracks:
- - Innovation Contest: Winners included teams from Bulacan State University (Philippines), Beijing University of Technology (China), Faculty of Technical Sciences Čačak at the University of Kragujevac (Serbia), and the Faculty of Sciences and Techniques at Errachidia - Moulay Ismail University (Morocco).
- - Practice Competition - Network Track: Dominated by teams from Shenzhen Institute of Information Technology (China), Instituto Federal do Tocantins (Brazil), Federal University of Technology Minna (Nigeria), and a collaborative team from Dar es Salaam Institute of Technology, University of Dar es Salaam, and University of Dodoma (Tanzania).
- - Practice Competition - Cloud Track: Notable winners included teams from iACADEMY (Philippines), University of Batna 2 and the Higher National School of Computer Science Algiers (Algeria), Tianjin University of Technology and Education (China), and Singapore University of Social Sciences.
- - Practice Competition - Computing Track: Teams from Guilin University of Electronic Technology (China), Federal University of Technology Minna (Nigeria), University of Bejaia and Higher National School of Computer Science SBA (Algeria), and Cebu Institute of Technology - University (Philippines) claimed top prizes.
- - Programming Contest: The ultimate prize went to a team from Shenzhen Polytechnic University (China).
Additionally, several special awards were presented to recognize outstanding contributions beyond technical excellence:
- - Women in Tech Award: Acknowledged four all-female teams from Brazil, Saudi Arabia, Germany, and Kenya.
- - Green Development Award: Honored a team from Ghana.
- - Most Valuable Instructor Award: Recognized 18 exceptional instructors from 10 countries including China, Algeria, Bangladesh, Brazil, Egypt, Indonesia, Iraq, Nigeria, Hungary, and Türkiye for their significant contributions to ICT education.

In his keynote speech, Ritchie Peng, Director of the ICT Strategy and Business Development Division at Huawei, emphasized the importance of continual innovation in competition design. He stated, “Our practice competition aligns with our vision for an Intelligent World 2030, encouraging students to master skills in cloud computing, big data, and AI while promoting social advancement.” The innovation contest specifically targets green development and digital inclusion, driving participants to address real-world challenges across various sectors like agriculture, healthcare, and education through ICT solutions.
With the global acceleration of digital transformation, the demand for skilled professionals in AI, big data, and cybersecurity is becoming increasingly critical. The Huawei ICT Competition tackles this talent shortage by incorporating multiple tracks, including Practice, Innovation, and Programming, along with initiatives promoting industry-academia collaboration and tailored curriculum development. These efforts aim to equip students with in-demand skills, inspiring the next generation of tech talent to impact an ever-intelligent and digitized world.
Moreover, during this year’s competition, Huawei hosted the AI Accelerating Education Transformation Summit, wherein experts deliberated on AI's pivotal role in smart education. Huawei also announced enhancements to the AI capabilities of the Huawei ICT Academy Intelligent Platform, making it more accessible and efficient for educators and students alike.
