BRICS Edition of the Dialogue of Civilizations Held in Rio
On July 2, 2025, the
BRICS edition of the
Dialogue of Civilizations series took place at the
Rio de Janeiro State University in Brazil. This significant event gathered over 300 participants from the BRICS nations:
Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa. The theme for this year's event was "Strengthening Cultural Ties Among BRICS Countries to Foster a More Promising Future for the Global South."
This initiative was co-organized by several prominent institutions, including the
Office of Information of the State Council of China, the
Legislative Assembly of the State of Rio de Janeiro, the
China Intercontinental Communication Center (CICC), and Nanfang Media Group. The presence and input from representatives of these organizations underscored the importance of cross-cultural engagement amidst today's global challenges.
During the opening remarks, a spokesperson from the Office of Information highlighted how interpersonal exchanges among BRICS countries exemplify not just cultural dialogue but also solidarity and shared development in the Global South. As the cooperation among BRICS nations evolves into a new phase, continuous cultural exchanges and mutual learning were described as crucial for making the
BRICS Plus collaboration more meaningful and inclusive.
Tia Ju, the Vice President of the Legislative Assembly of Rio de Janeiro, addressed global pressing issues such as
climate change, social inequality, and
geopolitical conflicts, emphasizing that the BRICS nations embody the voice of the Global South. She stated, "Deepening dialogue among civilizations is essential; culture unites individuals and promotes understanding. By respecting our differences and celebrating global solidarity, we contribute to the foundations of a sustainable future built on peace, empathy, and shared prosperity."
The opening ceremony featured a vibrant medley of pop songs representing the BRICS countries, performed by the
Copacabana Fort Orchestra. This musical showcase set a celebratory tone for the gathering. Participants, including athletes, business leaders, and young professionals from BRICS nations, shared personal stories that reflected their collective journey towards common developmental goals, emphasizing resilience, unity, and collaboration.
In conjunction with the main program, several thematic exhibitions were organized, illustrating the depth of cultural connections among BRICS nations. These included:

These exhibitions provided an immersive opportunity for participants to engage with the rich cultural heritage and contemporary expressions from each BRICS nation, reinforcing the day’s key messages of shared goals and collaborative futures. The success of the event reflected the ongoing commitment among BRICS countries to strengthen cultural bonds and enhance collective efforts towards addressing global challenges as nations of the Global South. As this dialogue continues, it not only highlights the importance of cultural exchanges but also cements the role of collaboration in fostering a more connected and resilient world.
