Okabe Corporation Expands Scope with Updated Select Base Foundation System

Okabe Corporation's Innovative Select Base Foundation System

Okabe Corporation, based in Sumida, Tokyo, is making strides in the construction sector with its updated foundation system, Select Base. Launched in 2021, this exposed hinge type elastic support system has already gained popularity, with over 7,000 units sold by September 2025. The revamped Select Base, set for commercial rollout on May 1, 2025, has redefined the parameters of structural safety and site efficiency.

Features and Advantages of the Select Base

The Select Base series is designed to accommodate varying performance requirements of buildings. Utilizing technology from its predecessor, Base Pack, which boasts zero structural failures, the Select Base allows users to select specific support structures based on their design needs. This flexibility not only optimizes construction costs but also enhances safety by reducing the weight of steel frames without compromising structural integrity.

One remarkable enhancement in the latest version includes the integration of anchor bolts and frame shapes to solidly connect building foundations with the base structure. This improvement streamlines assembly and significantly boosts rebar placement accuracy, enabling quicker and more consistent foundation work.

Industry Recognition and Collaboration

Following its 2021 evaluation, the Select Base is certified under the General Evaluation by the Japan Architectural Center, ensuring compliance and quality. Okabe Corporation continues to collaborate with Asahi Kasei Construction Materials to develop products aligning with market demands, reinforcing their commitment to customer-centric solutions.

Enhanced Structural Performance

The updated Select Base offers three primary benefits that make it appealing to builders and architects:

1. Reduced Calculation Loads: The design ensures that if a building’s first-floor lateral strength exceeds 1.1 times the required force, additional structural measures like the 'Structural Characteristic Coefficient (Ds) increase' are not necessary.
2. Improved Rotation Rigidity: Compared to its predecessor, the new Select Base shows a 1.23-fold enhancement in rotation rigidity, indicating greater resistance to deformation under pressure.
3. Wider Range of Applicable Materials: The application range of column materials has been expanded to include high-strength options, such as Press Column with an F value of 385.

Conclusion

Okabe Corporation is poised to set new industry standards with its Select Base system, reflecting a blend of innovative engineering and design. As the demand for reliable, efficient building solutions continues to grow, Okabe remains dedicated to contributing to disaster prevention efforts and sustainable development. By continually refining its products, the company aims to enhance the safety and efficiency of construction projects, ultimately playing a significant role in society’s evolution towards resilient infrastructure.
