Luke Lawson: Elected President of American Legion Boys Nation

In an impressive display of leadership, Luke Lawson, a promising high school senior from Headland, Alabama, has been elected as the President of the American Legion Boys Nation 2025 session. His victory came during a competitive election held in Arlington, Virginia, amidst a gathering of 100 young leaders from across the United States. This annual program provides delegates with a unique opportunity to engage in civic education by simulating the U.S. Senate.

Lawson, who is set to complete his senior year at Headland High School, captured a majority of the votes cast by fellow participants, earning him the prestigious title. The Boys Nation program, entering its 79th year, is designed to promote civic awareness and leadership among youth, with participants being selected from their respective Boys State programs.

The competition was fierce, with young leaders divided between two political parties: the Federalists and Nationalists. Lawson, representing the Federalist Party, successfully challenged opponent Beauregard Chiasson from California, securing his place as president in the election held on Tuesday evening.

Sponsored by the Bradley Keller American Legion Post 119 in Abbeville, Lawson reflects the dedication and commitment that is highly valued within this esteemed organization. Throughout the week-long event, he and his peers took on the roles of U.S. senators, engaging in discussions, creating legislation, and conducting elections for key leadership positions, including vice president and secretary of the senate.

During their week of immersion in the political process, participants had the chance to alongside their elected officials in various events. They explored notable landmarks around the nation’s capital, which reinforced the foundations of democracy and leadership they are learning.

In addition to Lawson, other elected officials include Vice President Nick Frazier from Deatsville, Alabama, who was supported by the American Legion Post 133 in Millbrook; President Pro Tempore Dominic Mimbang from Douglas, Georgia; and Secretary of the Senate Yamato Lerwill from Salt Lake City, Utah.

This program not only offers invaluable skills and experiences that build future leaders but also creates a network of young, engaged citizens who are prepared to make meaningful contributions to society.
