HCLTech's Climate Action Grant Awards $1 Million to NGOs for Sustainable Solutions

HCLTech Awards $1 Million to Support Climate Action

In a significant move toward combating climate change, HCLTech has announced the winners of its second Climate Action Grant in the Americas, dedicating $1 million to three NGOs. The recipients are Osa Conservation, Daily Acts, and Ocean Wise, each of whom will implement scalable projects aimed at fostering sustainable solutions across the continent.

Growing Urgency for Climate Solutions

This year witnessed a remarkable 70% increase in applications compared to the last edition, illustrating a rising urgency among organizations to put forth viable solutions against the climate crisis. After a thorough evaluation process, HCLTech decided to grant Osa Conservation $500,000, while both Daily Acts and Ocean Wise received $250,000 each.

With submissions from ten eligible countries, including Argentina, Brazil, and the United States, this increase underscores the pressing need to address climate change effectively. Dr. Nidhi Pundhir, Senior Vice President of Global CSR at HCLTech, stated that the surge in applications reflects the growing importance of supporting initiatives geared toward a sustainable future.

The Winning Projects

Osa Conservation

Based in Costa Rica, Osa Conservation will utilize its funding to focus on developing “Climate Lifeboat Corridors.” These corridors are essential for supporting species impacted by climate change, allowing them to migrate and thrive. The initiative aims to reconnect fragmented tropical habitats, enhancing resilience to climate changes while protecting crucial ecosystems over millions of hectares.

Daily Acts

Operating from California, Daily Acts will channel its grant into a community-centered initiative designed to strengthen climate resilience. Their project uniquely intertwines government strategies with grassroots efforts to improve water management, flood protection, and social infrastructure, particularly in the neighborhoods of Petaluma and beyond. This endeavor promotes not just resilience but also community involvement in climate response efforts.

Ocean Wise

Ocean Wise, a Canadian organization, aims to use its grant to undertake a pivotal project focused on restoring kelp forests along the Pacific coast. By addressing sea urchin overpopulation and integrating advanced technology with ecological research, this project aspires to revitalize marine biodiversity while supporting coastal communities affected by ecological shifts.

Ongoing Commitment to Sustainability

The HCLTech Climate Action Grant, established in 2023, has committed $5 million over the next five years to support sustainable solutions to the climate crisis across both North and South America. This initiative builds upon HCLTech’s broader efforts in sustainability, with over $175 million invested through various CSR programs thus far.

HCLTech has been recognized for its environmental commitment and was named an “Industry Mover” by the SP Global Sustainability Yearbook 2023.
