Revolutionizing Energy Efficiency with Beko's FlexiStart Feature for Home Appliances

Beko's FlexiStart: A Game Changer in Household Energy Management

In an era where energy conservation is critical, Beko has stepped up with an innovative solution: FlexiStart. This new feature integrates seamlessly with their HomeWhiz app, allowing households to program their connected appliances to run at times when electricity is more affordable. As energy prices fluctuate throughout the day, this technology provides a practical means for consumers to lower their energy bills while also contributing to a more sustainable electricity grid.

Understanding FlexiStart

Set to launch in January 2027, FlexiStart will initially debut in Germany and Türkiye, introducing users to a smarter way of managing their home energy consumption. By automatically scheduling appliance usage during lower-cost hours, Beko is not only making life easier for families but also addressing the growing need for energy demand management as renewable energy sources become more prevalent.

This adaptability is vital as demand often peaks during early mornings and evenings, causing electricity prices to rise. FlexiStart bridges the gap between peak and off-peak usage by suggesting optimal operating times based on real-time energy pricing. Households connected to dynamic or time-of-use tariffs will see direct benefits reflected in their monthly bills.

How It Works

The functionality of FlexiStart is straightforward. HomeWhiz analyzes the day’s electricity prices and recommends the best times for running selected appliance programs. With just a single tap in the app, users can confirm the suggested timings, allowing their devices—be it a washing machine, dishwasher, or tumble dryer—to operate during cheaper periods. This feature will also expand to refrigerators and air conditioners within the year.

Beko’s partnerships with energy providers further enhance this service. For example, consumers signing up in Germany and Türkiye will automatically receive time interval recommendations based on their individual tariff plans at launch. This synergy not only benefits families with reduced costs but also aids energy suppliers in managing demand more effectively.

The initial concept was refined through a pilot program in the Netherlands, and Beko is keen on extending its collaborations to additional markets as it moves forward. As more households adopt this technology, the cumulative impact of millions of appliances operating during off-peak hours could significantly improve energy grid stability.

Aligning with Sustainability Goals

The growing share of variable renewable electricity requires innovative solutions like FlexiStart. Beko is committed to aligning its products with the EU Code of Conduct on Energy Smart Appliances, aiming to ensure that appliances work seamlessly with any home energy management system. As a founding signatory of this code, Beko is taking concrete steps toward realizing a shared vision where consumers can easily contribute to energy optimization.

Ragıp Balcıoğlu, Beko’s Global Chief Marketing Officer, emphasizes that even a minor adjustment in when people operate their appliances can generate substantial flexibility for the grid and reduce bills for families. “FlexiStart makes that shift simple. Bringing it to COP31 illustrates that the energy transition relies on changes in both homes and power stations,” he states.

Beko’s Vision for the Future

As one of the largest appliance companies in Europe, Beko, which operates in over 55 countries, prides itself on innovation and sustainability. With 28 research and development centers employing over 2,000 professionals, Beko holds more than 4,500 international patents. It has been recognized as highly sustainable in its industry for seven consecutive years and remains committed to “Respecting the World, Respected Worldwide.”

In summary, Beko’s FlexiStart feature promises more than just cost savings; it represents a forward-thinking approach to energy management, aligning household needs with broader grid stability and sustainability goals. By embracing this technology, families can actively participate in the transition to a greener energy future while enjoying the conveniences of modern living.
