Lei Gallery Tokyo: A Fusion of Art and Aesthetics
On June 27, 2026, the much-anticipated
Lei Gallery Tokyo opened its doors in Yoyogi Uehara, creating an inviting—and artfully designed—environment where light and shadow can coalesce in beautiful synergy. Operated by
Antbee Co., Ltd., this new art space is a part of the flagship store
Lei In Praise of Shadows and is set to showcase various artistic creations while promoting the aesthetics of craftsmanship.
An Intersection of Culture and Creators
As a 'cultural intersection,'
Lei Gallery Tokyo is dedicated to presenting creators' works for exhibition and sale, bringing forth the intrinsic beauty found in materials, techniques, and cultures to both local and international audiences. The gallery embodies a vision where Lei collaborates with artists and creators, allowing for a vivid exploration of the essence of their craftsmanship while nurturing dialogue across different realms—be it products or artistic works, Japan or the world. This space aims to awaken a quiet, yet deeply felt appreciation for the often-overlooked sensations that dwell in our daily lives, encouraging an understanding of the beauty found in shadows.
First Exhibition: Tasuku Murose's 'Crossing the Mountains and Clouds'
To inaugurate the gallery,
Tasuku Murose—a lacquer artist—will showcase his first solo exhibition, titled
'Crossing the Mountains and Clouds.' Born in Tokyo in 1985, as the son of renowned lacquer artist
Kazumi Murose, Tasuku established his studio,
Yama no Ha, in Ibaraki’s Oku-Kuji region, a renowned area for lacquer production, following his independence in 2023. At the same time, he opened
Naka no Kumo, a cultural exchange hub located in Nakano, continuing his dual base of operations as he cultivates, crafts, and communicates about lacquer art.
His role extended to the flagship store's development, where he provided supervision for the display table, which features a unique lacquer finish as part of its design. The interplay of light on the table visually enhances the collection's exquisite shadows, forging a physical representation of the themes explored in his work. The exhibition will unveil a variety of new creations that have emerged from his artistic journey, embodying vital steps taken over the last few years.
