New Resource Sheet to Support Postpartum Mothers Launched in Japan

New Resource Sheet for Postpartum Mothers

On October 27, 2025, the La Leche League Japan, an NPO based in Shijonawate City, Osaka, announced the launch of a new resource sheet titled "Tips to Lighten the Postpartum Mind." This revitalized sheet is a comprehensive update to the previously issued "Tips for Coping with Maternity Blues" from 2012.

The new sheet aims to provide guidance and support for new mothers who are adjusting to the immense responsibilities of caring for their newborns. It focuses on reassuring mothers that it is perfectly acceptable to prioritize their well-being, seek help from others, and adapt to their baby's pace. By fostering these affirmations, the sheet seeks to reduce postpartum stress, facilitate coping with what is often referred to as maternity blues, and ultimately prevent postpartum depression.

With a vision for enhancing awareness and distribution of valuable information, the La Leche League Japan redesigned the sheet for ease of access during prenatal classes, hospital discharges, and home visits from healthcare professionals. The hope is to make it as practical and useful as possible for new mothers and their families.

Revamping the Resource

The previous sheet had a title that implied it was solely for those experiencing maternity blues, leading to a misconception about its broader utility. In reality, the content offers valuable tips relevant to all new parents starting their journey with a newborn. Thus, the new version is tailored to be a more inclusive resource for individuals both pre- and post-delivery.

Moreover, feedback indicated that the old sheet contained too much text, making it less engaging for readers. The redesigned sheet emphasizes visual elements on the front, providing key points through illustrations while summarizing main ideas on the reverse side in a more digestible format.

Online Availability

Recognizing that the format of the sheet limits the volume of information presented, the full text has been made available online. It can be accessed on their website, providing an opportunity for further reading. The website also features a downloadable PDF of the sheet to facilitate convenient viewing.

Purchasing the Resource Sheet

To support parents before and after childbirth, printed copies of the newly designed sheet are available for purchase in batches of 50. This is especially beneficial for local governments, healthcare institutions, and non-profit organizations focused on family support. Each A4 double-sided sheet is priced at 50 yen, with a total of 1,500 yen for a pack of 50.
