Safe Driving Summit at Prattville High School

On April 8, 2026, Prattville High School will play host to a pivotal Safe Driving Summit, orchestrated through a collaboration between the Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT) and the Lutzie 43 Foundation. The statistic is alarming: in 2024, almost 10% of vehicular accidents in Alabama involved young drivers aged 15 to 19. Therefore, fostering the right mindset among these future drivers is crucial.

Mike Lutzenkirchen, the Executive Director of the Lutzie 43 Foundation and a crucial figure in this event, will offer a keynote address. His message is deeply personal; it relates to the tragic loss of his son, Philip Lutzenkirchen, a promising football player at Auburn University who died in a crash attributed to distracted and impaired driving in 2014. Through sharing his story, Lutzenkirchen hopes to drive home the grave consequences of unsafe driving habits.

The Summit will comprise hands-on breakout sessions led by first responders and experts from various fields, including law enforcement and the trucking industry. Students will get a chance to interact with professionals and even experience sitting in a real big rig.
