Tamiya's Exhibition of the Legendary Tyrrell P34
Tamiya Co., Ltd. is commemorating the first anniversary of its facility, TAMIYA PLAMODEL FACTORY TOKYO, located in Shinbashi, Tokyo. This special exhibition features the legendary six-wheeled F1 car, the Tyrrell P34. Running from
May 20 to June 30, 2025, this event provides a free opportunity for motorsport enthusiasts to marvel at a piece of racing history.
The Story Behind the Tyrrell P34
The Tyrrell P34 was introduced during the
1976 Formula One World Championship. It featured an innovative design with four front wheels and two rear wheels, aiming to enhance grip while reducing aerodynamic drag. This revolutionary concept drew global attention since its unveiling. The crowning moment for the P34 occurred during the seventh race at the
Swedish Grand Prix, where it clinched a remarkable 1-2 finish, establishing its reputation for both innovation and competitive prowess.
Later that year, Japan hosted its inaugural Formula One race at
Fuji Speedway. In challenging wet conditions, the Tyrrell P34 finished in second place, leaving a lasting impression on local spectators and marking a significant milestone in the history of Japanese motorsport.
In April 1977, Tamiya released the Tyrrell P34 as the first kit in the
1/20 Grand Prix Collection, quickly gaining popularity. Following this, in June, it was also launched in the
1/12 Big Scale Series, symbolizing the allure of Formula One during the time of Japan's supercar boom. Nearly fifty years later, these kits remain in production, continuing to captivate model builders and motorsport fans alike through the joy of creation.
