PMI U.S. Launches 'Thanks for Giving' Campaign Honoring Community Service

PMI U.S. Launches 'Thanks for Giving'

On November 25, 2025, Philip Morris International's U.S. segment, known as PMI U.S., launched a significant initiative named 'Thanks for Giving.' This campaign acts as a call to action for Connecticut residents—often referred to as Nutmeggers—to acknowledge and support local charitable organizations and individuals devoted to fostering strength within their communities.

Set against the backdrop of the Thanksgiving holiday and the global movement known as #GivingTuesday, the 'Thanks for Giving' campaign aims to underscore the values of generosity and community investment that resonate throughout the year. The endeavor also honors the essential contributions made by both national nonprofits and local organizations seeking to make positive changes across America.

Marian Salzman, Senior Vice President at PMI U.S. and a pivotal player in the creation of GivingTuesday in 2012, shared her thoughts on the importance of continuous generosity. She noted, “#GivingTuesday started as a single day of goodwill, but the true impact comes when generosity and accountability with those investments become part of our everyday behavior. At PMI U.S., generosity is not confined to a specific season. It manifests consistently through our employees’ willingness to engage, support, and uplift their colleagues and communities throughout the year.”

Since beginning its philanthropic efforts in 2024, PMI U.S. has made substantial contributions totaling over $3.7 million to approximately 35 organizations in Connecticut alone. This support extends to a range of causes, including $57,000 dedicated to veterans and military support, alongside $3.6 million aimed at economic empowerment initiatives. These contributions empower organizations to enact real change in the community and positively impact people’s lives.

The campaign also highlights the work of organizations like Orchestra Lumos, where Director of Development Lisa Rich remarked, “Music has the power to touch everyone's lives. The support from PMI U.S. has significantly increased our ability to offer transformative musical experiences to countless community members.”

Similarly, Jendayi Scott Miller, the Founder of Angel of Edgewood, expressed gratitude towards PMI U.S., noting, “Their investment has substantially strengthened our outreach efforts, enabling us to assist more families facing food insecurity within Hartford. This partnership has resulted in measurable impacts at a time when such support is vital.”

A key feature of the 'Thanks for Giving' campaign is the WeCare program, which allows PMI U.S. employees to nominate nonprofits for company-funded donations. In 2025, the campaign facilitated the distribution of more than $1.86 million to over 400 local organizations in 44 states, plus the District of Columbia. Total contributions across the nation have exceeded $35 million since 2022, illustrating a sustained commitment to community support.

In alignment with this ethos, PMI U.S. employees have directed over $42,000 in company-sponsored funds to various organizations within Connecticut. Dr. Anthony Hassan, President and CEO of Cohen Veterans Network, emphasized the importance of PMI U.S.'s support, stating, “Funding from PMI U.S. employees via the WeCare program helps us deliver essential mental health care to veterans and their families. This partnership ensures that those who have served receive the quality care they deserve.”

The 'Thanks for Giving' initiative signifies a portion of PMI U.S.'s pragmatic philanthropy approach, which prioritizes listening, investing for impact, and forming connections with those engaging in meaningful work year-round. This campaign highlights a corporate giving strategy designed to enhance the lives and well-being of community members across the nation.

In summary, PMI U.S. is not only committed to enhancing the American landscape through its investments and smoke-free alternatives but also through profound community partnerships and philanthropic efforts. For further details about PMI U.S. and its initiatives, please visit www.uspmi.com.
