Upcoming Performance: 'Chural'
The contemporary dance organization Garandou, led by Jun Aoyagi, is set to present its fourth main performance, "Chural," from August 21 to 23, 2026, at Atelier Harukaze in Itabashi, Tokyo. This innovative event will feature three unique pieces that probe the possibilities of duet dancing, with each performer taking on the role of a creator.
"Chural," which translates to "the unstable beauty of nature," embodies the theme of finding natural beauty amidst the uncertainties of life. This performance aims to create a guiding light for individuals navigating their journeys. The showcased works will focus on three aspects of the concept of ‘natural’: nature, daily life, and the physical form. Each participant will explore their intentions and perspectives, emphasizing respect for one another’s views and fostering artistic collaboration.
Jun Aoyagi, the founder and director, emphasizes that this is not merely a dance performance; the actions on stage will transcend traditional dance, exploring experiences that resonate with the audience in profound ways. He draws parallels between the live experiences he aims to deliver and those encountered during his travels. Through three unique pieces, Aoyagi intends to unfold different narratives, inviting audiences to enjoy a refreshing experience away from their daily routines.
Aoyagi highlights the collaborative spirit among the performers, stating that they are all gentlemen in their artistry, valuing consideration for their surroundings and maintaining respect for the stage. Instead of being conventional artists, they represent a rare breed of mature creators who invite viewers into a comfortable and respectful space.
