Jennmar Partners with Outokumpu's Kemi Mine

Jennmar, a prominent global provider of infrastructure products and specialized services across various sectors, has announced a significant partnership with Outokumpu Corporation. This partnership will focus on supplying essential ground support products for the Kemi Mine, recognized as Finland's largest underground mine and uniquely positioned as Europe's only operational chromite mine. With this move, Jennmar aims to bolster its presence in Europe and deepen its collaboration with leading global mining companies.

On August 31, 2026, the company revealed that it has established "Jennmar Finland," a new subsidiary dedicated to ensuring seamless operations for Outokumpu and improving efficiencies at the Kemi Mine. This collaboration signifies a pivotal moment for Jennmar as it embarks on a long-term contract to deliver a comprehensive range of underground equipment, specifically tailored for the mine's unique conditions. The agreement entails providing critical supplies such as roof bolts, cable bolts, wire mesh, steel accessories, and pumpable resins.

The Kemi Mine, with its impressive ore processing capacity of 2.7 million tons annually, plays a crucial role in supplying chromite for Outokumpu’s ferrochrome and stainless steel production in the nearby town of Tornio. The partnership underscores Jennmar's commitment to enhancing safety, stability, and production efficiency in what is deemed one of the most significant chromite operations in the Western world.

Mike Petkovich, President of Jennmar Europe, expressed his enthusiasm regarding this partnership, stating, "We are thrilled that Outokumpu has chosen Jennmar as the supplier for the Kemi Mine over the next five years. This mine offers an outstanding opportunity for us to showcase our wide array of products and technical expertise in the region. We are continuously impressed by the knowledge and professionalism of the Kemi Mine team and look forward to providing them with our highest level of service throughout our partnership, enabled by our new subsidiary, Jennmar Finland."

Henri Simpanen, Kemi Mine's Vice President at Outokumpu, added, "At the Kemi Mine, we undertake extensive ground support measures to assure the highest safety standards for our employees while minimizing production risks. We are pleased to collaborate with Jennmar, a globally recognized leader in the industry."

As Jennmar embarks on this significant venture, it not only reinforces its presence in European markets but also emphasizes the importance of operational collaboration between their technical teams and those at Outokumpu.

Jennmar's extensive experience over the past 100 years in providing solutions aimed at enhancing safety and productivity in various sectors such as civil infrastructure, solar energy, mining, and construction forms a solid foundation for this partnership. Additionally, leveraging their global supply chain and technical expertise will ensure that the Kemi Mine meets its operational goals while maintaining robust safety protocols.

In a broader context, Outokumpu strives to develop innovative materials and technologies that will propel the future. As a leading provider of sustainable stainless steel, they have been at the forefront of advancing low CO₂ metals and solutions throughout the stainless steel value chain. With a business model rooted in the principles of a circular economy, Outokumpu transforms products that comprise over 90% recycled materials into fully recyclable stainless steel, significantly reducing the carbon footprint compared to industry averages.

This collaboration reflects a shared vision for maximizing value in sustainable steel, illustrating both companies' commitment to innovation and efficiency in their operations. As Jennmar moves forward with Outokumpu, it positions itself as a long-term partner in maintaining the integrity and operational efficiency of the Kemi Mine, ensuring a commitment to quality and safety that will yield benefits for the mining industry as a whole.
