CIBONE Presents Innovative Exhibition: "Plants Enveloped in Light"

From July 31, 2026, to August 16, 2026, CIBONE in Omotesando will introduce a fascinating collaboration between the plant shop Qusamura and the renowned ceramic artist Yoshida Naotsugu. This exhibition, titled "Plants Enveloped in Light," carries the unique concept of showcasing plants as entities that possess beauty and life, rather than merely decorative objects.

Qusamura, known for its distinctive selection of plants sourced from growers across Japan, emphasizes understanding these living beings in their natural environments. In this exhibition, plants will be observed not only for their aesthetic appeal but also for their roles in creating lively and nurturing spaces. This innovative approach recognizes the relationship between plants and their environment, highlighting the importance of design in promoting their continued growth.

Visitors will experience a harmonious blend of Yoshida's crafted ceramic vessels and Qusamura's custom-designed display units called "Kaku," which are intended to embody and reflect light, creating a cohesive environment suitable for plant life. Each element – the vessels, light, plants, and display units – operates independently, yet they resonate with one another to form a unified scenic experience.

Yoshida's ceramic works are characterized by a serene color palette dominated by whites and blacks and feature sharply refined forms. The sculpture-like form of the vessels quietly accentuates the plants’ contours and vitality without overshadowing them. Conversely, the "Kaku" units, which are revealed for the first time at this exhibition, ingeniously integrate essential light for nurturing plants and elegantly curate the overall growth environment.

Price for the Kaku starts from ¥242,000 (including tax), with options available in various sizes.

In this exhibition, the vessel supports the plants, the light sustains them, and the display units elevate this relationship into spatial awareness. The display presents a fresh perspective on creating living environments where plants can flourish, advocating the idea that nurturing growth must combine functionality and aesthetic design.

During the exhibition, attendees will also have the opportunity to place orders for "Kaku" units, while a limited number of Yoshida's previously discontinued shade designs will be available for purchase.

On the opening day, July 31, 2026, Yoshida and Qusamura's owner, Kohei Oda, will be present, offering a unique occasion for guests to interact with the creators during a reception starting at 6 PM. This is a chance to gain deeper insights into the artworks and plants directly from their makers, making it a must-visit event.

About the Artists

Qusamura

Qusamura thrives on the concept of showcasing plants with great character and beauty. The owner travels throughout Japan to curate a diverse collection of plants that highlight their distinctive attributes, pairing them with carefully designed vessels. The store name reflects the owner’s admiration for naturally occurring plant clusters, which often conceal unique beauty within seemingly ordinary grass clusters. The initial "Q" in Qusamura stands for "Question," inviting visitors to explore the intriguing world of distinctive plants.

Yoshida Naotsugu

Born in 1976 in Shizuoka, Yoshida Naotsugu graduated from Tokyo Zokei University and subsequently studied under renowned ceramic artist Taizo Kuroda. In 2003, he established his kiln at the foothills of Mt. Fuji in Gotemba, where he crafts exceptional pieces that enhance the beauty of nature.
