Sinopec Hosts Youth Cultural Ambassadors Ceremony in Algiers
On November 12, 2025, the China Petroleum & Chemical Corporation, commonly known as Sinopec, organized a significant event in Algiers aimed at fostering cultural exchanges between China and Algeria. The event marked the culmination of the initiative titled "In Search of China-Algeria Youth Cultural Ambassadors," and served to highlight the vital role that young individuals play in bridging cultural divides between nations.
The ceremony saw the recognition of five exceptional young participants who were awarded the title of Youth Cultural Ambassadors. These individuals were chosen for their remarkable ability to share narratives that encapsulate the essence of bilateral cooperation from a youthful perspective, effectively strengthening the ties of understanding and friendship between the two countries.
Yongsheng Yu, the Managing Director of Sinopec Group Branding Department, spoke passionately about the organization's commitment to fostering collaboration that encompasses both energy and cultural dimensions within Africa. He stated, "These young ambassadors demonstrate how civilizational exchange can ignite energy among the youth and forge crucial connections for mutual understanding." His emphasis on the role of young people in this cultural dialogue underscores Sinopec's approach to international relations, recognizing the importance of grassroots engagement amidst broader geopolitical strategies.
The President of the Algeria-China Friendship Association, Smail Debbache, acknowledged this initiative's contribution to creating channels of communication between youth from both nations. He remarked, "This program not only showcases the beauty and diversity of our cultures but also reveals Sinopec's important role in encouraging mutual learning and heartfelt connections." Debbache's insights reflect a broader sentiment among leaders that cultural diplomacy plays a vital role in international relations.
During the ceremony, the Algerian Minister of Culture and Arts, Malika Bendouda, shared her own experiences with Chinese philosophy during her childhood, particularly noting the lasting impact of Confucian teachings on her values and perspectives. She urged the youth of both countries to take up the mantle of cultural ambassadors, emphasizing that through mutual exchange, they can form enduring friendships that transcend generations.
Guo Jianjun, the Economic and Commercial Counselor at the Chinese Embassy in Algeria, spoke about the long-standing friendship between the two nations, which dates back to the ancient Silk Road. He stated, "With the current momentum reinforced by the Belt and Road Initiative, we envision the youth of today as the architects of a strong future relationship between China and Algeria. They are called to embrace innovation and openness, writing new stories of cooperation together."
The initiative has seen enthusiastic participation from Algerian youth, with a significant response of 165 entries, including short videos and vlogs that focus on the stories of the Belt and Road and the goodwill fostered between the two nations. After a rigorous selection process involving multiple rounds of reviews, 30 works advanced to the semi-finals. Ultimately, 15 finalists competed live on stage, culminating in the selection of five outstanding ambassadors.
This initiative not only serves as a reflection of Sinopec's commitment to cultural engagement and its broader corporate social responsibility but also represents a genuine effort to connect young people in Algeria and China, fostering long-lasting friendships and deepening bilateral ties for future generations. Events like these underline the importance of youth in shaping global narratives and building bridges that transcend cultural divides.
