Sinopec Unveils Catalyst Innovations at the International Conference in Tianjin

In a significant event for the chemical and refining industries, Sinopec, short for China Petroleum & Chemical Corporation, hosted its second International Catalyst Customer Conference in Tianjin. This pivotal gathering, themed “Catalyzing Collaboration, Forging a Smarter Future,” brought together numerous industry leaders to discuss groundbreaking advancements in catalysts.

Driving Efficiency with Catalyst Innovations
The conference aimed to highlight innovations in catalyst technology that facilitate more efficient refining and chemical production processes. Attendees discovered new developments in product technology and industrial applications, effectively bridging research with the evolving needs of global clientele.

Delegates included representatives from 69 companies spanning 24 countries, such as the Netherlands, Switzerland, Algeria, Brazil, Azerbaijan, and South Korea. This diverse participation allowed for a rich exchange of technical knowledge, practical experiences, and the exploration of collaborative opportunities within the refining and chemical sectors.

The Role of Catalysts in the Industry
Catalysts are essential to the refining and chemical manufacturing processes. They help improve energy efficiency, reduce carbon emissions, optimize production processes, and develop new materials. The need for sustainable production has heightened the importance of closer collaboration between technology developers, manufacturers, and clients.

Thanks to its long-standing commitment to research and development, Sinopec has established itself as a leader in catalyst technology for refining and chemical products. The company boasts an extensive portfolio of nearly 300 products across seven categories, including refining catalysts, polyolefins, basic organic chemicals, coal-derived chemicals, environmental protection products, adsorbents and additives, as well as chemicals for oil fields. These offerings support a broad array of industrial processes and applications.

Global Presence and Future Prospects
For over 20 years, Sinopec has been active in international catalyst markets, combining top-notch products with technical services for clients across more than 40 nations in Asia, Africa, Europe, and America. Between 2021 and 2025, the company made significant strides by exporting 14 different types of catalysts for the first time, which included those used in propane dehydrogenation, xylene isomerization, and continuous catalytic reforming. Moreover, Sinopec added 13 new export destinations, including Canada, the United Kingdom, and Argentina.
