U.S. Officials' Visit to Venezuelan Oil Fields Marks A New Era of Cooperation

U.S. Officials' Visit to Venezuelan Oil Fields By NABEP

In a significant diplomatic and economic gesture, U.S. officials from the State Department, including Chargé d’Affaires John M. Barrett, toured the oil fields operated by North American Blue Energy Partners (NABEP) in Venezuela on October 23 and 24, 2026. This visit comes on the heels of a historic agreement between NABEP and the U.S. government aimed at boosting oil production in the region.

Record-Breaking Production

During this two-day visit, the production levels of NABEP reached an impressive 115,000 barrels per day at their Petrozamora oil fields. This surge is attributed to new operational strategies and an influx of drilling rigs supplied by American partners. Barrett noted, "Less than two months after announcing this historic deal, our partner NABEP has already increased its oil production and has brought new drilling platforms from the United States, providing jobs for Venezuelans and enhancing U.S. energy security. This is a mutually beneficial scenario."

The visit included inspections of critical operations at the Bachaquero oil field, where NABEP plans to launch projects aimed at further increasing production. The Bachaquero Lago 2 compression module and ongoing projects Bachaquero 3 and Ceuta 4 are set to deliver increased output in the coming months.

The Economic Impact

The partnership developed through NABEP not only underpins the economic framework stabilizing both nations but also addresses long-standing production declines. Alejandro Betancourt, NABEP’s CEO, emphasized the role of local labor in enhancing the industry, stating, “Each barrel we produce is the work of Venezuelan hands. Our local workforce is crucial as we navigate the revitalization of these oilfields.”

Currently, NABEP employs over 5,000 individuals directly and supports more than 10,000 contractor jobs across Venezuela. The company has dramatically increased its daily production from approximately 18,000 barrels to over 200,000 through significant investments nearing a billion dollars, applied strategically for ongoing production enhancements.

Future Prospects

The Junín 10 block, previously known as Junín Sur, is the focal point of NABEP's new drilling efforts, with operations from three drilling rigs and plans to deploy three more shortly. This includes a recent sixth rig that arrived in Venezuela to further boost operations. The company has set ambitious goals, targeting over one million barrels per day in production capacity moving forward, a feat supported by proven reserves of over 65 billion barrels of oil.

The backing from the U.S. through both the State and Defense Departments is geared towards cultivating a long-term production capability that aligns with energy demands in both countries. By fostering such relationships with NABEP, the renewed production aims to stabilize the local economy amid its complex geopolitical landscape.

Conclusion

As U.S. officials continue to engage with Venezuelan oil fields, the collaboration between the countries signifies hope for revitalizing the Venezuelan economy while supporting U.S. energy interests. NABEP stands as a testament to how strategic partnerships can yield positive outcomes, demonstrating the potential of cooperation in addressing global energy challenges. This new administration’s approach could mark the beginning of a lasting economic and diplomatic engagement focused on sustainable development and mutual benefits for both nations.
