A Day to Remember: Eliza Ikeda at the Tokyo Daishoten
On December 29, Tokyo City Keiba (TCK) held the prestigious 71st Tokyo Daishoten (GⅠ), a highlight of the dirt racing season. The event was made even more special by the presence of Eliza Ikeda, TCK’s esteemed image character, who played a pivotal role as the awards presenter, adding flair and excitement to the day.
Eliza Ikeda arrived at the Oi Racecourse in style, dressed in a luxurious black long coat adorned with striking accessories. Despite the winter chill, her vibrant spirit illuminated the venue. Early into her mini-talk show, she greeted attendees with enthusiasm, asking, “Isn’t it hot in here?” This simple question sparked an energetic response from the crowd, setting the tone for a festive atmosphere.
When asked about her feelings upon stepping into the bustling Oi Racecourse, Eliza expressed her awe: “It’s my first time visiting here with so many people, and I’m completely overwhelmed by the energy!” Reflecting on her role as TCK’s image character, she initially felt uncertain about the responsibility, saying, “I wondered if I was the right choice. However, considering the diverse audience that enjoys horse racing now, I hope to share the joy of it with my fans.”
Eliza shared her appreciation for the talented actors she worked with in the TCK commercial, stating, “It was truly an honor to perform alongside such professionals. I believe the advertisement captures the thrill and excitement of horse racing.” When she turned the spotlight on the audience for their thoughts on the commercial, enthusiastic shouts of “It’s amazing!” echoed back, to which she smiled brightly.
As a first-time spectator, Eliza revealed, “Today is my first time watching a horse race live, and I even purchased my first betting ticket. Both the horses and the jockeys are giving their all for this moment, and I can’t wait to experience the thrill!” With her spirit high, she picked Narukami as the horse to watch. Eliza explained her choice by saying, “I believe in beginner’s luck! The horse shares a similar name with me—four katakana characters—so I’m hopeful.”
Ending her mini-talk with excitement, she exclaimed, “I bought my first ticket and, like everyone else, I’m feeling this thrill! Let’s enjoy this festive end of the year together!” Her heartfelt message earned her another round of applause from the eager fans in attendance.
Though Narukami finished in a respectable sixth place, unable to secure the win, Eliza’s day continued as she joyfully interacted with the jockey Takehiro Yano and waved at her fans, radiating joy amidst the electric atmosphere that lingered post-race.
TCK has established a special website dedicated to their image characters, where fans can learn more about Eliza Ikeda's role and contributions.
