New Horror Game 'Returning Home' Developed in Just One Month with AI Involvement

Unveiling the Sequel to a Chilling Experience

Mogic Inc., based in Nerima, Tokyo, has taken the gaming world by storm once again with the upcoming release of its sequel 3D horror game, 'Returning Home' (夏の夜におうちに帰らせて). Following the phenomenal success of its predecessor, 'Taking Out the Trash' (夏の夜にゴミを捨てさせて), which achieved over 10,000 plays, the new project promises a thrill in just three minutes of gameplay. This latest title is set to launch on July 24, 2026, and it is completely free to play on both PC and mobile browsers.

The sequel brings players back to the chilling atmosphere of the protagonist’s new apartment, where unsettling events occur following the terrifying experience of trash disposal in the original title. Players will have to navigate out of the apartment while reliving haunting memories. Notably, those who missed the first game will still find an engaging experience in this new escapade.

Rapid Development Powered by AI

Showcasing Mogic's commitment to innovation, the development of 'Returning Home' was accomplished in only one month, relying solely on one engineer and generative AI for the entire process, from game concept to landing page. While the previous project was a learning experience in 3D game making, the current project encompasses enhancing horror elements, including the creation of items and immersive atmospheres within confined settings.

The integration of AI has transformed traditional game development practices. The AI facilitated various aspects:
  • - Concept Art and Promotion: Crating captivating illustrations and promotional videos。
  • - Programming: Implementing mechanics using the Godot engine, including navigation and physics.
  • - Data Analysis: Utilizing player data from the previous game for informed design decisions and improvements.
  • - Landing Page Design: Retaining design elements from the first game while enhancing AIO and SEO.
  • - 3D Modeling: Generating environment assets representing the ominous apartment.
  • - Sound Synthesis: Developing various sound effects that amplify the horror experience.

Through this initiative, Mogic highlights the potential of AI in reducing the engineering barrier, allowing even non-engineers to partake in game development. This new direction is also integrated into internal team-building activities, such as creating mini-games that can host 30 participants simultaneously.

Feedback from the Developer

The developer, expressing excitement over the project, noted, “I was thrilled with the response to the first game, as it received far more playtime than I anticipated. Creating a 3D game within browser restrictions posed both challenges and enjoyable experiences. There is potential for further innovation in this AI-driven landscape, and we aim to explore automation across various development stages in future prototypes.”
