Tammy Barlet Selected as 2025 Bush Institute Leadership Program Scholar
Tammy Barlet Selected as a Scholar for the 2025 Bush Institute's Leadership Program
Tammy Barlet, the Vice President of Government Affairs at the Student Veterans of America (SVA), has received recognition as one of the 37 scholars joining the Bush Institute's Stand-To Veteran Leadership Program for 2025. This prestigious program is designed to foster leadership among individuals who are either veterans themselves or are significantly involved in veteran affairs.
The Stand-To Veteran Leadership Program, now in its seventh year, will take place over five months in Dallas, Texas. The initiative seeks dynamic leaders from various fields, both military and civilian, to enhance their leadership skills while focusing on the needs of veterans and their families. Scholars will engage with an array of experts, educators, and seasoned professionals throughout the program, gaining insights into veteran transitions, leadership development, and building effective networks.
Barlet, who has been instrumental in advocating for veterans' educational benefits and opportunities, lauded her selection, expressing, "I am honored to be part of the George W. Bush Institute's Stand-To Veteran Leadership Program. This opportunity enables me to connect with a network of passionate leaders committed to improving the lives of veterans and their families. I am eager to enhance my impact, learn from fellow advocates, and continue to ensure that those who served receive the support and opportunities they rightfully deserve."
Her personal leadership project promises to bridge crucial gaps in information and support by planning the establishment of a dedicated office within the Veterans Affairs' Veterans Benefits Administration. This office will focus specifically on assisting and educating family members of veterans who are rated at 100% Permanent and Total concerning the benefits available to them. The project will significantly emphasize raising awareness about educational benefits, thereby empowering both veterans and their families to thrive.
The selection process for the Stand-To program was rigorous, ensuring that only deserving candidates were chosen. Each scholar in this new cohort will culminate their learning experience with a personal leadership project aimed at supporting veterans and their families.
Jared Lyon, the President and CEO of SVA, praised Barlet's selection, acknowledging her relentless dedication to serving veterans, military-connected students, their family members, caregivers, and survivors. "Tammy’s inclusion in this esteemed program reflects her commitment to our mission. The insights and relationships she cultivates during this journey will undoubtedly benefit all of us at SVA, as we strive to create stronger pathways to education and opportunity for those who have served."
The program also boasts an accomplished alumni network, with over 200 graduates from previous classes who occupy leadership roles in various sectors including business, non-profits focused on veteran support, government, and academia. Many alumni remain engaged in active military service or reserve roles, perpetuating the cycle of leadership and support within the veteran community.
The Bush Institute affirms its commitment to developing effective leaders through this program, linking it to a broader goal of enhancing outcomes for veterans and military families. More information about the Stand-To Veteran Leadership Program can be found at bushcenter.org/veteranleadership.
