University Students Embrace Nagoya's Morning Culture Through Manga Advertising Project

Celebrating Nagoya's Morning Culture with Manga Advertising

In an innovative educational collaboration, 32 university students from Nagoya Zokei University are diving into the vibrant culture of Nagoya's morning meals through a hands-on advertising project led by Aqua Star, a company specializing in illustrations and digital content.

The program revolves around a thematic project titled "Tabeyaa! Nagoya Morning," which aims to effectively communicate the appeal of Nagoya's morning culture. The students are tasked with designing key visuals and manga advertisements that will be featured on a dedicated webpage for tourists, drawing in visitors with captivating imagery and engaging content.

The project began on April 20, 2026, with an orientation session where Aqua Star executives explained the assignment's objectives and the creative process behind advertising production. Through discussions about the background and artistic intentions of the project, students are learning to conceptualize their ideas and express them visually.

As part of the course, students are developing campaigns specifically targeted at the 20-30 age group, ensuring that their projects resonate with younger audiences and effectively convey the essence of Nagoya’s morning culture. This includes not just artistic creation but also critically thinking about the message they wish to deliver and the audience they intend to reach.

To ensure continuous improvement, the students' work will undergo an intermediate review on June 1, 2026. Aqua Star's professionals will provide constructive feedback based on real-world practices, guiding the students in refining their projects before the final evaluations. The reviews will focus on artistic execution, conceptual clarity, and overall effectiveness in appealing to the target demographic. Each student will be assessed individually, allowing for personalized guidance that ensures they develop both their creative skills and their understanding of advertising strategies.

Like the key visuals they are creating, which serve as the centerpiece of promotional campaigns, students must grasp how to synthesize information and effectively communicate ideas visually. This project is not just about creating illustrations; it's designed to foster a deeper understanding of how to convey a message powerfully and clearly.

In a world increasingly dominated by digital communication, the ability to comprehend and convey nuances through visuals is becoming essential. Aqua Star emphasizes the need for today’s illustrators and designers to possess strong creative and analytical skills, which this project aims to develop thoroughly.

As part of future enhancements, the group will produce their final works in response to the feedback received during the intermediate review, with plans for a culminating showcase in June. Outstanding projects will not only be recognized but may also be implemented in Aqua Star's wider marketing efforts.

This collaboration represents Aqua Star's commitment to nurturing emerging talent in the creative sector while actively engaging in community-centric projects. Representatives from both Aqua Star and Nagoya Zokei University express excitement about what the students will create and the valuable experience they are gaining.

In the words of Aqua Star’s Visual Production Department Director, Mitsu Ota, "This project encapsulates our mission to solve challenges through visuals. We are eager to see how students interpret the theme and the unique expressions they will develop. We are fully committed to supporting their journey."

The initiative not only enhances the students’ practical skills, but also raises awareness about the rich traditions of Nagoya's morning culture, ensuring that this culinary heritage is celebrated and shared through innovative, engaging media. As these students embark on this creative endeavor, they are set to make a meaningful impact on how Nagoya’s iconic morning meals are perceived and appreciated by both locals and tourists alike.

As we look ahead, this partnership heralds a new era of educational collaboration that prioritizes practical experience and cultural advocacy through the arts.
