Georgia Power Invites Proposals for 2025 Energy Storage Systems Development

Georgia Power to Launch Its 2025 Energy Storage System RFP

Georgia Power, a leading energy supplier, has announced an open comment period for its 2025 Request for Proposals (RFP) aimed at integrating Energy Storage System (ESS) resources. This initiative is part of its broader commitment approved by the Georgia Public Service Commission (PSC) under the 2022 Integrated Resource Plan (IRP). The RFP will seek competitive bids to secure a significant capacity of 500 megawatts (MW) of ESS, which underscores the company’s emphasis on diversifying its energy resources and enhancing grid reliability.

Solicitation Details

The RFP will specifically target two types of ESS solutions: standalone systems with grid charging capabilities, and systems that can utilize both renewable resources (whether new installations or existing ones) and grid charging capabilities. Each resource procurement will need to meet the requirement for a storage discharge duration of a minimum of two hours. This capacity increase is crucial for Georgia Power as it aims to meet growing energy demands while fostering sustainability.

Interested participants in the RFP process must register on the Ascend Analytics Power Procurement platform. Those who register will be invited to attend an RFP Bidder's Conference scheduled for September 29, 2025. This conference will present a valuable opportunity for participants to understand the specifics of the RFP process and network with other stakeholders in the energy sector.

Submission Guidelines

It is essential to note that all proposals and communications regarding the RFP must be submitted exclusively through the Ascend Analytics Power Procurement platform. Georgia Power will not accept submissions made through phone calls, emails, or postal mail, stressing the importance of this structured communication channel for transparency and efficiency in the proposal submission process.

Aiming for Operational Rollout

Georgia Power has indicated a timeline for the selected resources to become operational by the end of 2031. This timeframe aligns with the company’s goals to enhance its energy portfolio and maintain a reliable energy supply for its customers. The integration of energy storage systems is vital as it allows for smoother operations and management of energy generated from renewable sources, thus supporting the grid during peak demand times.

Commitment to Customer Satisfaction

As the largest electric utility in Georgia, Georgia Power serves around 2.8 million customers, encompassing various energy needs across a wide geographical area. The company prides itself on offering reliable and safe energy solutions while committing to environmental stewardship. Its diversified generation mix includes nuclear, natural gas, coal, and renewables such as solar, hydroelectric, and wind energy. This strategy reflects the company's focus on delivering clean energy and keeping rates competitive, further underscoring its endeavor to maintain high standards of customer satisfaction acknowledged through various industry accolades.

Georgia Power encourages participants to take part in this exciting opportunity and contribute to the state’s energy future.
