Huawei ICT Competition 2024-2025 Global Final
The finale of the Huawei ICT Competition 2024-2025 took place successfully today in Shenzhen. This year marked the 9th edition of the competition, which witnessed unprecedented participation with over 210,000 students and educators from more than 2,000 colleges and universities across 100 countries and regions. Following national and regional rounds, 179 teams from 48 countries and regions qualified for the Global Final.
The competition was fierce, featuring three main categories: Application, Innovation, and Programming. Ultimately, 18 exceptional teams from nine countries were awarded top honors. Notable winners of the Innovation Competition included teams from Bulacan State University in the Philippines, Beijing University of Technology in China, Technical Faculty of Kragujevac University in Serbia, and Faculty of Science and Technology at Errachidia - Moulay Ismail University in Morocco.
In the Application Competition, the Grand Prize was awarded for Outstanding Performance in Network Domain to a joint team from Shenzhen Institute of Information Technology in China, Federal Institute of Tocantins in Brazil, Minna Federal University of Technology in Nigeria, and a collaboration involving the Dar es Salaam Institute of Technology, University of Dar es Salaam, and University of Dodoma in Tanzania. Teams from iACADEMY in the Philippines, Batna 2 University and National School of Computer Sciences in Algeria, Tianjin University of Technology and Education in China, and Singapore University of Social Sciences won awards in the Cloud track.
In the Computer track, winners included teams from Guilin University of Electronic Technology in China, Minna Federal University of Technology in Nigeria, Bejaia University and SBA National School of Computer Sciences in Algeria, and Cebu Institute of Technology - University in the Philippines. The Programming Competition recognized a remarkable team from Shenzhen Polytechnic University in China.
In addition to the main awards, special recognition was given for outstanding contributions beyond technical excellence. The Technology for Women Award was presented to teams composed entirely of women from Brazil, Saudi Arabia, Germany, and Kenya. The Green Development Award went to a team from Ghana. The Most Valuable Instructor Award honored 18 distinguished educators from ten countries including China, Algeria, Bangladesh, Brazil, Egypt, Indonesia, Iraq, Nigeria, Hungary, and Turkey, acknowledging their contributions to ICT education.
Ritchie Peng, Director of Huawei's Strategy and Business Development Department, emphasized in his opening speech the continuous improvement in designing competition topics to inspire learning and foster innovation. He explained that the Application Competition aligns with the vision for a Smart World 2030, encouraging students to specialize in cloud computing, big data, and artificial intelligence to drive social advancement.
The Innovation Competition motivates participants to address real-world challenges in sectors such as agriculture, health, and education through ICT with a focus on green development and digital inclusion. As digital transformation accelerates globally, the demand for skilled professionals in areas such as artificial intelligence, big data, and cybersecurity continues to rise. However, a growing talent shortage in these critical areas is becoming evident.
To tackle this challenge, the Huawei ICT Competition includes initiatives like industry-academia collaboration and the development of specialized curriculums across multiple domains, including Application, Innovation, and Programming. These efforts aim to equip students with in-demand skills and cultivate the next generation of technology talents who will thrive in an increasingly smart and digital world.
During this year’s competition, Huawei also hosted the AI Education Transformation Acceleration Summit, where experts explored the pivotal role of AI in smart education. Additionally, Huawei officially announced the AI Talent of the Huawei ICT Academy Smart Platform, enhancing the accessibility and efficiency for educators and students, marking another step forward in advancing digitalization in education.
