YMCA of the Rockies Unveils Major Campaign: Climbing Higher
The YMCA of the Rockies, renowned for its commitment to enhancing the lives of families and youth, has initiated its largest fundraising campaign to date. Titled
Climbing Higher, the campaign aims to raise
over $57 million to significantly expand access, modernize facilities, and enrich experiences for more than
260,000 annual visitors to its retreat centers and youth camps. This ambitious goal reflects a deep commitment to fostering community connection and personal growth.
Campaign Overview
Launched in 2024,
Climbing Higher has rapidly gained traction, attracting support from over
1,290 families and individuals. This campaign not only addresses immediate needs but also establishes a sustainable future for the YMCA’s programs. The YMCA of the Rockies has earmarked funds for
23 projects, including
20 cabin adoptions and
15 endowment funds. Moreover, it has facilitated over
10,000 subsidized stays for teachers, single parents, faith leaders, foster families, and military families facing challenges.
One beneficiary, Kenneth Locklin, expressed gratitude, stating, “Thanks to the donors supporting these programs, our family was able to experience snow for the first time.” This sentiment underscores the campaign’s mission to create memorable experiences for families seeking connection and adventure away from the hustle of daily life.
Addressing a Growing Need
In today's world, marked by rising loneliness and disconnection, the
YMCA of the Rockies serves as a crucial haven for families and youth to reconnect with each other and nature. The
Climbing Higher campaign not only meets these pressing needs but also modernizes legacy facilities to improve guest experiences.
Julie Watkins, the President and CEO of the YMCA of the Rockies, highlighted the campaign's significance, stating, “Climbing Higher represents a defining moment for YMCA of the Rockies... creating space for connection and belonging.” This initiative aims to uphold a tradition of environmental stewardship while embracing evolution.
Early Impact and Ongoing Developments
Climbing Higher has already seen tangible impacts across its campuses, enhancing access and experiences:
- - Estes Park Center has re-launched its preschool program and established a new wellness center.
- - Snow Mountain Ranch has introduced new aerial courses and made significant accessibility upgrades.
- - Camp Chief Ouray is gearing up for a relocation project that will allow more children to participate in summer camps.
These initiatives showcase the vital role that the YMCA's donors play in shaping positive experiences while ensuring the institution’s growth and relevance for future generations.
A Legacy of Community Support
Steered by the
Rocky Mountain Leadership Council, the campaign honors a longstanding tradition of community involvement. Co-Chairs Doug and Carolyn Dannen expressed their pride in leading such an impactful initiative that builds upon
50 years of family experiences at the YMCA.
As the campaign progresses into its third year, approximately
$16 million is still required to fulfill ambitious project goals, which include the restoration of the historic
Administration Building and enhancements at the
Nordic Center and
Arts & Crafts Center. These developments promise to enrich the YMCA experience for future visitors, providing meaningful mountain adventures that nurture body, mind, and spirit.
Summarizing the YMCA's unique appeal, guest Hannah Evans-Jackson remarked, “I've fallen in love with this special place... the views, nature, facilities, and the people here make this place truly one of a kind.”
