Foremost Farms Teamsters in Reedsburg Prepare for Strike Over Labor Disputes

Foremost Farms Teamsters Prepare for Strike

The members of Teamsters Local 120, representing 40 workers at Foremost Farms in Reedsburg, Wisconsin, have recently voted in overwhelming support to authorize a strike. This decision comes as a reaction against the company's failure to address long-standing issues, including inadequate staffing, low wages, and retirement security, while also attempting to push through concessions that would weaken existing protections regarding overtime and attendance.

Shaun Mullikin, a Business Agent from Teamsters Local 120, voiced the frustrations of the workers, stating, "Our members keep Foremost's butter operation running smoothly despite enduring significant staffing shortages and extensive overtime hours. They deserve fair wages that reflect their hard work, along with the continued protection of their overtime and attendance rights, and a retirement plan that ensures dignity after years of dedication. The overwhelming vote illustrates our members’ unity in demanding the contract they rightfully deserve."

At Foremost Farms, known as a major dairy cooperative with extensive operations throughout the Midwest, Teamsters play a crucial role in butter production. Drew Schafer, one of the workers and a steward with Local 120, echoed similar sentiments, emphasizing the necessity for fair wages that align with the demanding nature of their work. "The conditions we work under require commitment and effort, and we are not asking for anything unreasonable. We want a deal that acknowledges our contributions, fair overtime practices, and pension plans that allow us to retire comfortably. We are eager to finalize an agreement soon. However, Foremost Farms must commit to serious negotiations and an adequate proposal, or we will have no choice but to take to the streets for our rights."

The Teamsters Local 120 union proudly represents over 15,000 workers across multiple states, including Wisconsin, Minnesota, Iowa, North Dakota, and South Dakota. As the labor situation continues to unfold in Reedsburg, attention remains focused on the negotiations and potential strike outcomes that could significantly impact the dairy cooperative industry in the region.

As negotiations evolve, the union stands firm in its resolve, emphasizing the commitment to fighting for a fair contract that reflects the hard work and dedication of its members. Union leaders and workers alike remain hopeful for a swift resolution that honors their contributions while addressing the critical issues they face each day on the job.
