Experience the World of 90s British Art at V.A.
Starting February 27, 2026, the concept store V.A. will transform into an art haven with a limited-time popup store featuring works from the exhibition "Tate Museum - YBA & BEYOND: The Art That Changed the World in the 90s." This unique event promises to be a brilliant showcase of the dynamic British art scene from the 1990s.
At the forefront of this exhibition is renowned British photographer Wolfgang Tillmans, a pivotal figure in contemporary art. His work is celebrated for its deep engagement with youth culture and sexual identity, embodying the revolutionary spirit of the 90s. Notably, Tillmans was the first photographer to win the Turner Prize in 2000, making a significant mark in the art community.
The popup store will showcase selected works from the Tate’s exhibition, including the notable pieces
Seated Kate, featuring the famed model Kate Moss, and
I Want to Forget You, which is driven by strikingly large prints. All these works will be reinterpreted through the creative filters of V.A. and FRAGMENT, offering a fresh perspective on these iconic art pieces.
Alongside stunning artwork, the V.A. popup store will feature exclusive merchandise inspired by the exhibition. Visitors can snag limited-edition items such as tote bags, fleece blankets, and lens cleaners. For example, the YBA & BEYOND - Wolfgang Tillmans Tote Bag is priced at ¥9,900, while the fleece blanket is available for ¥19,800, and the lens cleaner retails for ¥990.
In addition to Tillmans, the popup will also highlight works from other influential figures of the era, such as Damien Hirst, Julian Opie, and Lubaina Himid. Each piece encapsulates the experimental and diverse expressions of that time, providing a thorough glimpse into the creativity that shaped 90s Britain.
The exhibition "Tate Museum - YBA & BEYOND" that parallels this popup is a landmark event showcasing the evolution of British art from the late 1980s to the early 2000s. It features around 100 works by approximately 60 artists who challenged traditional artistic norms during a tumultuous period in British society. Many of these works delve into themes relevant to popular culture, personal narratives, and social changes, displayed through various mediums including painting, sculpture, photography, video, and installation.
As we approach the actual opening date of the popup store and the continued exhibition at the National Art Center, there's an enthusiasm that is palpable. The blend of renowned art with unique merchandise offers both enthusiasts and casual visitors an extraordinary opportunity to engage with a defining moment in history.
