JA Solar Power Talk Highlights Innovative Solar Project at Borussia Dortmund's SIGNAL IDUNA PARK

JA Solar Power Talk Webinar: Pioneering Solar Project at SIGNAL IDUNA PARK

JA Solar, a prominent name in the global green energy sector, has recently unveiled a remarkable addition to its Power Talk webinar series, focusing on a groundbreaking photovoltaic (PV) installation located at SIGNAL IDUNA PARK, home to the renowned Borussia Dortmund football team. This impressive project not only highlights advancements in solar energy technology but also underscores the role of sports venues in promoting sustainability.

In December 2025, the webinar featured a series of presentations that detailed the project's impressive specifications and achievements. Among these, the installation is certified by RID as the world's most powerful PV system installed on a stadium roof. Utilizing over 11,000 full-black modules engineered by JA Solar, this solar system generates an impressive 4 GWh of clean electricity annually. This initiative results in a notable reduction of approximately 1,700 tons in CO₂ emissions each year—an impactful step toward combating climate change.

The installation at SIGNAL IDUNA PARK not only marks a significant milestone in urban infrastructure but also serves as a model for other large-scale projects integrating PV technology. During the webinar, expert speakers shared insights into the meticulous planning and execution that went into the project. The journey from conception to completion required extensive feasibility studies, long-term strategic planning, and collaboration with various stakeholders.

Among the speakers were Petra Zelenická, the Head of Marketing and Market Research Europe at JA Solar; Florian Demnitz, Energy Manager at Borussia Dortmund; and Christoph Kielhorn, who led the project management office for battery development at RWE. Gianluca Michieletto, the Marketing and Social Media Manager at JA Solar, effectively moderated the session, ensuring a seamless flow of information.

The webinar shed light on the logistical and technical challenges involved in working within one of Europe’s busiest stadiums, especially given the packed schedule of both sporting and non-sporting events. Each construction phase had to align perfectly with strict safety protocols and fluctuating weather conditions, emphasizing the complexity of the endeavor.

Notably, the project’s impact extends beyond energy generation. With millions of visitors and broadcasts each year, SIGNAL IDUNA PARK offers unparalleled visibility, making it an influential platform for showcasing the ongoing energy transition. This initiative is a clear demonstration of how professional sports venues can actively engage in and support climate goals while paving the way for similar projects in the future.

JA Solar considers this installation a flagship example of delivering high-performance PV solutions tailored for complex and high-profile environments. The project exemplifies the company’s ability to provide reliable products while ensuring peak performance under demanding conditions, thereby creating new opportunities for PV integrations across various public infrastructures and sports venues in Europe and beyond.

As a solid foundation in the solar power industry established in 2005, JA Solar has evolved into a leading force in the field of PV power generation solutions. Its integrated business model covers every aspect, from manufacturing wafers and cells to modules and energy storage systems. Counting 16 overseas subsidiaries, JA Solar caters to a diverse clientele across 180 countries and regions. By Q3 2025, the company had reached remarkable achievements, with cumulative shipments of nearly 317 GW of cells and modules, backed by more than 2,000 patents and a robust global distribution network.

Through initiatives like its Power Talk webinar series, JA Solar continues to demonstrate its commitment to advancing sustainable energy solutions while fostering meaningful dialogue about the future of solar technology in various fields, including sports and urban development.
