Tokyo's Innovative Seminar Offers Support for Parents of Students with School Refusal Issues

Tokyo's Upcoming Seminar for Parents of School Refusing Students

In response to increasing concerns over school refusal among children, the Tokyo Metropolitan Government is hosting an informative seminar aimed at parents of elementary and middle school students. Scheduled for early 2027, the event will provide a valuable opportunity for parents to learn about available support options and alternative educational environments.

As part of its initiative to foster diverse learning spaces, the Tokyo Children Policy Liaison Office is spearheading this initiative to connect parents of children who are either refusing school or are showing tendencies to do so with specialized resources. The seminar will be an essential platform for parents seeking advice and information regarding their children’s unique situations.

The seminar will be held in three formats to ensure accessibility for all interested parents:
- In-Person (Tama Region): January 30, 2027, from 1:30 PM to 4:15 PM at the Tokyo Tama Future Messe, Hachioji City. This session will feature booths from public support agencies and local free schools.
- In-Person (Central Tokyo): February 7, 2027, from 1:30 PM to 4:15 PM at the Tokyo International Forum, Chiyoda-ku. Similar booths will provide information and guidance.
