'Koto no Ha Noh Vol. 4' - A Unique Cultural Event
The upcoming event,
'Koto no Ha Noh Vol. 4', is set to take place on
June 22, 2025, at the
Yarai Noh Theatre in Tokyo, hosted by the
Ichi no Kai organization under the leadership of
Keigo Suzuki. This event promises an immersive encounter with classical Japanese culture, combining Noh theater, storytelling (Kodan), and harmonica performance to explore the poignant tale of
Atsumori, a young noble of the Heike clan.
A Cultural Experience for Everyone
The performance is designed to be accessible to all, including those with visual impairments. Attendees will enjoy a meticulously crafted program that interweaves these traditional artistic forms to bring the tragedy of
Atsumori to life. The
Ichi no Kai aims to introduce classical arts to a broader audience, ensuring that everyone can partake in the beauty and depth of Noh and Kodan.
The evening will feature a special arrangement of the beloved piece,
'Aoba no Fue Gensoukyoku', expertly played by renowned harmonica player
Hiromi Terasawa. This evocative piece will set the emotional tone for the event, laying a rich foundation for the storytelling that follows.
The Story Unfolds
The heart-wrenching narrative centers on
Kumagai Jiro Naoyuki, a warrior faced with the sorrow of slaying
Atsumori, the young Heike noble. The Kodan master
Kanda Orioto will narrate this tale, skillfully blending parental despair and youthful valor.
In the Noh section,
Keigo Suzuki, a distinguished Noh performer and a holder of important intangible cultural properties, will portray the ghost of
Atsumori as he reflects on his life and the fleeting nature of existence in front of
Kumagai, who has chosen a path of spiritual renunciation.
