Rekindling Memories: The 'Omoi de Keitai' Restart Event in Kamaishi

An exciting opportunity to reconnect with cherished memories has arrived in Kamaishi! KDDI Corporation, headquartered in Minato, Tokyo, is proud to announce the "Omoi de Keitai Restart" event, taking place from November 20 to November 22, 2026, at Aeon Town Kamaishi, located in Iwate Prefecture. This event will mark its debut in Kamaishi and serve as the third occurrence in Iwate, rekindling the magic of old mobile phones.

For many of us, our mobile phones hold a treasure trove of memories—photos of favorite moments that may be lost forever if the device stops working. The "Omoi de Keitai Restart" event provides a chance to breathe new life into old and possibly non-functional mobile phones, allowing participants to retrieve photographs they had long given up on.

During the event, participants are invited to bring their old phones that have fallen into disrepair, particularly those that can no longer be charged due to battery malfunctions. Using specialized charging equipment, the phones will be revived, enabling attendees to print out their nostalgic photos. What's more, the event is completely free of charge and open to visitors regardless of their mobile carrier. Since its inception in 2016, more than 28,000 individuals have participated, with reports of happy reunions with lost memories.

The goal of the "Omoi de Keitai Restart" event is to spark conversations and deepen connections among family and friends through the revival of fond memories encapsulated in catchy phone photos. Participants have shared touching feedback, citing feelings of joy when finally able to view long-forgotten pictures and messages from loved ones.

For those interested in joining, the event runs from 10 AM to 6 PM from November 20 to November 21 and until 5 PM on November 22. To participate, individuals must reserve a spot via the designated webpage. This year marks a special occasion as it’s the first ever or any event of its kind in Kamaishi.

Since the program's initiation, it has undertaken over 660 events across various locations, providing enriching experiences that enhance local communities.
