Tanmiah Food Company Partners for Sustainable Poultry Solutions in Saudi Arabia
In a significant step towards sustainability, Tanmiah Food Company has entered into three strategic partnerships aimed at enhancing its ecological footprint in Saudi Arabia. The agreements were finalized during the First Annual Saudi Agri-Food Tech Alliance (SAFTA) Forum, hosted by the Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture in Riyadh. Under the patronage of Vice Minister Mansour Almushaiti, the forum convened key stakeholders from various sectors to discuss advancements in sustainable agriculture.
Tanmiah Food Company, a major player in the poultry industry and one of the Kingdom's top vertically integrated food producers, will work alongside Schneider Electric, Strataphy, and Kayes Arabia to bolster its energy efficiency efforts and expedite its decarbonization strategy. The company aims to align with Saudi Arabia's Vision 2030, a national plan focused on diversifying the economy and promoting environmental sustainability.
Chief Strategy Officer Mr. Abbas Khan presented Tanmiah’s innovative approaches, including the utilization of IoT (Internet of Things) and artificial intelligence in enhancing logistics and farming practices. A highlight of his presentation was the firm's successful trials using locally grown alternative feed, which could significantly reduce dependence on imported feed sources.
Among the key initiatives, Tanmiah's collaboration with Schneider Electric will involve developing a comprehensive carbon assessment to identify and establish measurable reduction targets based on the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi). This also includes engaging with suppliers to decarbonize the supply chain effectively.
Volatile energy practices have long plagued the poultry industry, particularly in operations relying on outdated fuel sources. Therefore, Tanmiah's partnership with Strataphy is especially noteworthy. This collaboration will introduce the first geothermal-cooled poultry facility in the region, utilizing a Cooling as a Service (CaaS) model. This low-carbon solution will not only help in effective poultry production but also serve as a model for future sustainable practices.
In addition, Tanmiah is set to transition its diesel-powered equipment to Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) systems in collaboration with Kayes Arabia. This strategic move is designed to lower emissions and costs while promoting a cleaner, more efficient operation across their farms and processing facilities.
Zulfiqar Hamadani, CEO of Tanmiah Food Company, emphasized the importance of this initiative, stating, "This represents a defining moment in Tanmiah's sustainability journey. We are uniting technology, innovation, and strategic collaboration to turn climate ambitions into real and measurable outcomes."
The combined efforts with these partners are expected to enhance Tanmiah's leadership role in environmental sustainability. Tanmiah’s dedication extends beyond these agreements; it has previously launched initiatives like planting a million trees and employing wastewater from its facilities to further sustainability practices.
Tanmiah Food Company, established in 1962, has evolved into one of the Middle East's foremost producers of fresh poultry, processed proteins, and animal feeds. Committed to delivering high-quality food products, it operates a network that spans multiple countries in the region, reinforcing its stature in the food supply chain. With sustainability at its core, the company remains intent on leading the way in sustainable food production, making significant strides towards a cleaner, innovative future in agriculture.
By focusing on these strategic collaborations, Tanmiah Food Company signifies its commitment not just to its operational efficiency but also to lessening the environmental impact of its production processes, thus setting a precedent for others in the industry to follow. It underscores the vital role of innovative technology in creating a sustainable food ecosystem that holds the potential to meet both the current and future needs of food security in Saudi Arabia and beyond.
