About the Exhibition 'I.D. 1986'
The exhibition title,
'I.D. 1986', is a reflection of Konami's artistic journey since its inception. The display offers a rich narrative through a progression of photographs that detail his evolution as an artist, beginning with early works and transitioning to pieces influenced by his experiences in Tokyo's vibrant street scene and culminates in recent captures made in
New York City. This global hub—where people from various ethnicities and backgrounds converge—serves as a backdrop showcasing the diverse spectrum of human interaction.
Konami's masterful technique and instinctive creativity coalesce to form a coherent installation that radiates individuality through its collective presentation. Each photograph, while unique, contributes to a cohesive narrative that invites viewers to explore concepts of identity and self-expression.
As part of this exhibition, a companion book titled
'I.D. 1986' will be available for purchase. The book features a remarkable selection of his work, encapsulating his artistic insights and experiences. Additionally, a special collaboration with Agnes b. has resulted in the creation of artist-designed T-shirts that will also be for sale at the galerie boutique during the exhibit.
Artist's Statement
Konami reflects on his journey as a photographer starting from 1986, emphasizing that this exhibit isn't solely about revealing himself as an artist. Instead, it's an exploration of the desires he has unearthed over time, positioning his experiences within their cyclical nature of life and art.
He vividly recalls his early days of photography at around the age of 20, particularly a moment walking with friends in
Koenji, Tokyo, on a rainy day. Capturing images of his friends wearing 'The Other Side' sweatshirts evokes a sense of nostalgia, proving that past moments can still resonate in the present.
Photographic series transcend traditional timelines, illustrating that memories are embedded deeply within our bodies. Although distanced from that original park, the vivid recollections remain intact. They exceed mere visual information, leaving substantial emotional impressions that linger in his heart, underscoring the sacredness of those moments. He eagerly anticipates the revival of his initial emotional impulses and the everyday experiences that accompany them.
