Experience Connection Like Never Before at the 5th Sunshine City Tug-of-War Tournament!

Strengthening Office Bonds through Tug-of-War

On May 27, 2023, Sunshine City in Ikebukuro will host its 5th Tug-of-War Tournament, designed to enhance communication among office tenant companies and encourage collaboration. This engaging sports event will take place at the Sunshine Square, showcasing a vibrant atmosphere strengthened by participation from multiple tenants.

Embracing Connections in the New Era

In the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, the importance of workplace dynamics has been thrust into the spotlight. Companies now face challenges about the relevance of office spaces and the effectiveness of internal communications. With the increase of remote work, the opportunities for in-person interactions have decreased significantly, leading to weaker relationships among employees across hierarchies and departments. This decline in engagement has spurred a greater focus on strategies to prevent early departures of new hires and overcome communication barriers.

In a survey conducted in 2025, numerous tenant companies expressed a strong desire for increased informal interactions both internally and with external businesses. Responding to this need, Sunshine City aims to clarify the significance of in-office work and the inherent value of the workplace through this tug-of-war event.

An Event that Fosters Team Spirit

The Tug-of-War Tournament aims to bolster communication among employees, reporting positive outcomes from previous editions, such as heightened company unity, enhanced inter-company networking, and enriched relationships among staff. Such events promote stronger ties between workers across companies located within the same building, thus creating a more integrated community. This year, the tournament promises vibrant participation, featuring 25 teams from various office tenants, each comprising diverse members to promote inclusivity and shared experiences.

Safety and Community Building

Beyond the thrill of competition, this event plays a critical role in disaster preparedness. By cultivating a familiar environment among tenants, potential collaboration during emergencies becomes seamless, emphasizing the dual benefits of engagement and preparedness.
