RTX's Q3 2026 Financial Results Showcase Remarkable Growth and Improved Forecasts
RTX Reports Q3 2026 Financial Outcomes
On October 20, 2026, RTX Corporation (NYSE: RTX) announced its financial results for the third quarter of 2026, reflecting a remarkable growth trajectory. The company reported sales of $25.0 billion for the quarter, marking an 11% increase compared to the same period last year. Organically, the growth tapped in at 12%, a significant uptick fueled by robust demand across commercial aerospace and defense sectors.
In terms of earnings, RTX recorded GAAP earnings per share (EPS) of $1.89, which incorporated acquisition accounting adjustments totaling $0.26 and a restructuring cost of about $0.11 due to various non-recurring items. Adjusted EPS surged by 33% from the previous year to $2.26, driven in part by a $0.25 recovery under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA). This notable increase in profitability underscores the efficiency in operational execution and cost management.
The operating cash flow for Q3 stood at $2.9 billion, with the free cash flow reaching $2.1 billion. Notably, the backlog for the company remains strong, measuring $340 billion, which comprises $176 billion from commercial and $164 billion from defense contracts. This backlog reflects significant future revenue opportunities and supports RTX's optimistic outlook.
During the third quarter, RTX also secured multi-year production contracts for the Tomahawk and AMRAAM missile systems, further solidifying its position in the defense market. Following these results, RTX raised its 2026 outlook for adjusted sales between $97.0 billion to $97.5 billion, up from earlier projections of $95.0 billion to $96.0 billion. The company now anticipates organic sales growth of 10-11% and an adjusted EPS between $7.65 and $7.75 for the full year.
Chris Calio, the Chairman and CEO of RTX, stated, “Our robust execution and operational focus in Q3 enabled RTX to achieve double-digit organic sales growth across our commercial aerospace and defense divisions. Demand for our solutions remains strong, with over $81 billion in new awards.” He further elaborated on the company's strategies to enhance output, optimize the cost structure, and invest in new technologies that cater to the evolving needs of customers.
In a breakdown of its three business segments:
1. Collins Aerospace:
- Reported sales reached $8.4 billion, up 10% year-over-year. The operational profit surged by 42%, driven by increases in commercial original equipment (OE), aftermarket sales, and defense. Its strong operational performance led to an impressive 21.3% return on sales (ROS).
2. Pratt & Whitney:
- Sales remained at $9.2 billion, a growth of 10%. However, it experienced challenges resulting in a decline in operational profit by 19%. Adjusted operational profit rebounded by 29%, attributed to higher aftermarket volume and IEEPA recoveries.
3. Raytheon:
- This division reported sales of $8.0 billion, reflecting a 14% growth compared to the prior year. The operational profit grew by 32%, buoyed by improved productivity and increased volumes on key defense programs like the Patriot missile systems.
RTX's growth strategy appears adaptive, with the company distinctly focusing on addressing customer demands while navigating the various complexities of the global market. As it enters the concluding quarter of 2026, RTX’s proactive measures and robust performance metrics place it in a favorable position to achieve its updated financial projections.
