New Data from the Butembo Copper Project
Copper Intelligence has recently announced the release of new drill core data from its exploration program at the Butembo Copper Project in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC). This latest information offers fresh insights into the geological materials retrieved from the site, enhancing the understanding of the region's mineral wealth.
Key Findings
The drilling operations demonstrate a strong grade profile near the surface. Notably, expansion drilling has successfully extended the mineralization at Butembo by 200 meters, bringing the total strike length to over 300 meters. Significant intersections of native copper and cuprite have been observed over a span of 5 meters in the drilling sample BCDD-006.
The initial results confirm a copper-rich structure across an initial 300-meter strike length, with the first six drill holes, spaced 50 meters apart, all intersecting copper mineralization. Here are some of the notable findings from these boreholes:
- - BCDD-001: 7.55 meters with a copper grade of 5.39% from surface, including a peak of 18.77% Cu over 0.5 meters.
- - BCDD-002: Intersected 3.00 meters at 1.89% Cu from a depth of 19.71 meters.
- - BCDD-004: Showed 6.00 meters at a grade of 0.74% Cu from 6 meters.
- - BCDD-006: Remarkably, 29.1 meters at 1.28% Cu from 1 meter, including a notable 3-meter section at 7.86% Cu.
- - BCDD-007: Intersected 16 meters at 1.65% Cu from 23 meters, with a peak of 13.30% Cu in a smaller segment.
Cumulatively, these six boreholes indicate an average vertical thickness of 7.6 meters with a copper grade of 2.4%. The most recent drilling activities have uncovered mineralization extending deeper than 20 meters, with ongoing efforts to identify continuity along a north-easterly strike direction. This aims to ascertain whether the high-grade zones are persistent along this trend.
Future Exploration
The presence of copper oxide minerals such as malachite and azurite, along with a range of copper sulfides including chalcopyrite and bornite, suggests a substantial copper system that has experienced various degrees of oxidation and remobilization. Evidence of supergene enrichment has also emerged, further indicating the potential of this project.
Ongoing drilling is set to extend along the strike to evaluate the continuity and possible scale of the mineralization. Additional drill holes, numbered 8 through 11, are anticipated to provide further results by the end of August 2026, with early observations proving encouraging.
