Festival Theme and Popularity

The theme for the ODISHA JAPAN FESTIVAL 2026 is “Dance and Sing in India!” This year, thanks to generous support from various crowdfunding initiatives and community backing, the festival is expanding into a two-day event. The previous festival drew an impressive attendance of around 20,000 participants, showcasing a blend of cultures through various attractions like food stalls offering popular Japanese dishes such as takoyaki, taiyaki, and Japanese tea. Children were delighted as they engaged in 'yo-yo tsukui', a traditional game, highlighting the fusion of Indian and Japanese cultures.

One of the festival's highlights was the 'Bon Odori', a traditional Japanese dance, where both Japanese and Indian attendees came together to dance, captivating the local audience with the rhythmic and powerful performance of the 'Soran-bushi'.
