As Japan prepares for the Grand Sumo Tournament in May, a unique book fair will be hosted at the Ginza Tsutaya Bookstore to celebrate the launch of the new book,
Sumo and Design. The fair runs from
April 27, 2026 to
May 31, 2026, and will showcase the evolving art and culture of sumo fashion.

GINZA SIX 6F, Ginza Tsutaya Bookstore, the fair will feature a range of activities and special merchandise associated with the book. The central theme focuses on traditional sumo outfits, specifically the
kesho-mawashi (ceremonial aprons) and
sometsuke kimono (dyed kimono). These vibrant pieces of clothing, rich in history, have been crafted by skilled artisans, making this event a must-visit for enthusiasts of Japanese culture and design.
Exclusive Exhibits
Among the highlights, visitors will have the chance to see an actual
kesho-mawashi worn by former wrestler
Kita-jin (formerly known as Endo) on display. This garment not only represents the pinnacle of sumo fashion but also showcases exquisite embroidery and silk fabric that illustrates the grandeur associated with the sport. Other exhibits will include various fabrics used in the making of kesho-mawashi, alongside numerous sumo-related goods.
